Scott Walker Drops His Presidential Bid

Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker announced last night he will suspend his campaign for the Republican nomination for the Presidency.  In an apparent parting shot against Donald Trump, he said:

“Today, I believe that I’m being called to lead by helping to clear the field in this race so that a positive conservative messenger can rise to the top of the field.  With this in mind, I will suspend my campaign immediately. I encourage other Republican presidential candidates to consider doing the same. So that the voters can focus on a limited number of candidates who can offer a positive conservative alternative to the current frontrunner.”

While the timing was unexpected, according to Walker allies, Walker’s campaign suffered the problem most campaigns do at this stage.  They are short of money.

Walker’s performance in last week’s debate was not good enough to propel him higher in the polls, and spark the interest of additional donors, in a very crowded field. We rated his performance as good, and improving, but we thought he was outshown by Fiorina, Trump and others.

Ted Cruz’s reaction was “Holy Cow.” Walker was once considered a front runner, and was expected to do very well in Cruz’s home state of Texas.
