Pope Leo, Immigration, and Media Bias
It seems the American press corps has once again proven that politics trumps accuracy in the Fourth Estate. In recent remarks, Pope Leo, the relatively new occupant of the papal throne, weighed in on the ever contentious issue of U.S. immigration. His remarks were clear, balanced, and nuanced. That is precisely why the left‑leaning media immediately stripped them of clarity, balance and nuance.
The headlines screamed that Pope Leo had rebuked Trump’s deportation policies. Why? Because he said immigrants should be “treated humanely.” Stop the presses! A Pope calling for humane treatment of people? Who could have seen that coming? Apparently, this was breaking news to the media class, who rushed to interpret it as a papal slap across Trump’s face.
But here’s the problem. The Pontiff did not stop there. He also said, “No one has said the United States should have open borders. I think every country has a right to determine who and how and when people enter.” That is not exactly the rallying cry of the “Abolish ICE” crowd. In fact, it sounds suspiciously like something you might hear at a Republican convention. The Pope even emphasized that people can be treated with dignity through the American courts and justice system. Translation: Yes, enforce the law, but do it fairly. Not exactly the left’s dream of borderless utopia.
Yet, the media conveniently ignored that part. Why let a little context get in the way of a good narrative? This is what critics once called media bias “yellow journalism.” Today, they have upgraded the branding to “fake news.” (Probably because no one under age 60 is familiar with the term “yellow journalism”).
What really throws the press for a loop is that Pope Leo is not the progressive darling they were hoping for. They are used to pontiffs who lean left on social issues, who can be counted on to echo their worldview. But Leo? He’s an American Pope with a relatively conservative streak. That alone is enough to send left-wing editorial boards into apoplexy.
The only hint of his politics — if you dig into his personal history — is his former registration as a Republican. His brothers are openly Trump supporters. The man who floor managed Leo’s rise to the papacy was New York’s Cardinal Dolan—one of the most conservative members of the College of Cardinals. Put all that together, and you don’t exactly get a Vatican endorsement for a radical left-wing agenda.
The irony here is that Pope Leo’s remarks were actually a model of common sense. He acknowledged the moral obligation to treat people with dignity. He also affirmed the sovereign right of nations to control their borders. None of that is radical. It is common sense. But common sense doesn’t sell papers, attract viewers or drive clicks. Outrage does. And so, the media dutifully manufactured outrage — presenting Leo as the latest celebrity critic of Trump.
The truth is that Democrats and their media allies have engaged in giving a completely wrong impression of the Pope’s remarks. They wanted a progressive Pope to weaponize against conservatives. Instead, they got a Pope who sounds a lot like the average American voter—concerned about fairness, but also about law and order.
So, what do we learn from this episode? First, that the media’s ability to distort is alive and well. Second, that Pope Leo is not the left’s ally in their crusade for open borders. And third, that “fake news” is not just an empty slogan.
In the end, Pope Leo’s message was simple. Treat people humanely but respect the rule of law. It is a message that should resonate across the political spectrum. But in the echo chamber of partisan journalism, only half the message made it through. The rest was lost in translation—or more accurately, deliberately discarded.
Pope Leo spoke with precision and clarity. The press responded with spin. And the truth, as usual, was the casualty.
So, there ‘tis.

Just look up the early history of the catholic faith. Many people were murdered because they didn’t believe it the Catholic doctrine. Just like the democrats, the catholic religion is a huuuuge cult. Dunger reeks with the cult mentality.
DD Acordung makes little sense and less truth.
I feel honored to be among in the half of the country you hate for no proven reason of your own twisted deplorable imagination.
Didn’t like the passage but got no response except hate? Got no proof except verbal vomit? 🤮 Let me sum for you: stick it where the sun don’t shine. And then, spin on it.
While snippets of your post may be correct, the take away from the Pope’s message was to treat immigrants humanely, and that comment was a definite rebuke to the trump regime and krusty gnome in particular. Anyone with one eye who watches or reads the news knows that ICE has turned into a rogue force, that treats their victims with indiscriminate inhumanity, be they an immigrant or citizen. Most of the US (and the rest of the world) are disgusted by what we see during ICE operations-which is what the Pope’s message was about, a point which you seem to have overlooked (surprise!)
ICE is very humane. They are great patriots enforcing the laws. In some countries people who came in illegally have been arrested and/or shot. Mikey and Dunger don’t like immigration laws? Good. Get over yourselfs. That’s the problem with lowlife democrats. You idiots want to pick and choose which laws to adhere to. If you think that retard Biden was right paying for the hotels for wet backs, you fools should bring them into your house. Then your wife and kids can see how much they appreciate you bleeding hearts.
Harold Blankenshit sheep lover is the last turd who should be flinging his dung around here.
Think he’s lost and on the wrong thread.
Typical Hegseth warrior. Drunk again.
Harold, I don’t mind the immigration laws, it is what ICE is currently doing that I object to-ICE is not following the law. Every immigrant who is not stopped at the border gets their day in court-that law is not being followed. When ICE (and Krusty gnome) start following the law, we will stop complaining…
I read this little ditty and was struck by a complete lack of support, evidence, or facts. Once again, Horist rejects showing supporting evidence and relies on the fact that you agree with him before he even unveils the truth.
He claims: “Yet, the media conveniently ignored that part. Why let a little context get in the way of a good narrative?” Along the way, he never mentions any of the fake news culprits instead just phrasing the evil as coming from “the American press corps” and “left leaning media” covering quite the waterfront. The White House press corp is hand-selected by Trump, can’t be any there. Nowhere does he mention what the “right-leaning media” is doing about this horror.
I took him at his work and googled: “pope leo on immigration.” The first story: *https://www.usccb.org/news/2025/pope-calls-treatment-migrants-us-extremely-disrespectful* Hmm, United States Conference of Catholic Bishops featuring the Catholic News Service from the Vatican, Horist is calling a “left-leaning, biased,” fake news outlet if you ever saw one. Cause we all know that the Vatican is a commie, socialist, organization….
The next article was NPR, rated “Overall, we rate NPR (National Public Radio) Left-Center Biased based on story selection that leans slightly left and High for factual reporting due to thorough sourcing and accurate news reporting.” So, slightly left but highly factual. Oh, those cads.
Neither story confirms this author and both stories seem to give the complete description of what the Pope actually said.

And then he lies: “The only hint of his politics — if you dig into his personal history — is his former registration as a Republican.” And he knows he is lying. In Illinois, like Chicago where both the Pope and the author come from: voters do not register by party affiliation. There is no mechanism for party registration. They can declare a party when voting in a primary, for that primary, says the Illinois State Board of Elections. And yes, the Pope voted in three Republican primaries, 2012, 2014, and 2016, we don’t know about the rest, but he is not documented as a registered Republican. He cannot be, nor can anyone. The Illinois voter registration application does not ask people to provide a party affiliation. How can Horist not know this?
SPANKED for lying.
One of the Pope’s brother, called a PoBro, is most certainly a vocal Trumper, there is no data on the second brother alleged the same by Horist. Perhaps he has data that fake news could not uncover.
Where did these Pope falsehoods originate? The tragic Charlie Kirk started it. On May 8th, Kirk wrote on X, “Our Turning Point Action team pulled the voting history for Pope Leo XIV, he’s a registered Republican who has voted in Republican primaries when not living abroad. Our data shows he’s a strong Republican, and he’s pro-life.” Pope is not registered, he has missed primaries when in the US, and no one knows how strong a party man he is. No evidence.
Fact checkers have failed Kirk’s and Horist’s ascertain as false, fake, and untrue. I call it a lie that the author, a political expert for life, from Chicago, has to know but ran with it anyway never second-sourcing the facts.

The Pope is the Pope and I think we can drop who he was before he was Pope as determining what he thinks at Pope. Popes change their names to signify a new mission, honor predecessors or saints, and signal their vision for the Church. I am pretty sure any concept of political party went in the burn bag fro his old namesakes. His brother tells a funny story of how, as Pope, the Pope is always “popeful.” He notes this as “he always dresses Pope even if it’s just us. Once, we were going to the roof to look out, no one else with us, and even then —- full Pope attire. Why, it’s just us said the bro, but didn’t matter. He’s Pope now, 24/7, even when alone on a roof. Take the Pope for what the Pope says, not who he used to be. And tell the truth, Pope not fond of liars.
