Mexican Government Intends to Collaborate With Sanctuary Cities

Apparently, the Mexican government has come up with a 11-step plan to protect its U.S. citizens when Trump is the official president.

“Fellow countrymen, these are moments of uncertainty,” said Claudia Ruiz Massieu, Mexican Secretary of Foreign Relations in video posted on Twitter. “Stay calm, do not fall to provocations and do not let yourself be deceived. We want to inform you about possible migratory actions.”

Instead of working with the U.S. federal government, Mexico announced this week that it would increase “collaboration at the state and local level.” Specifically, the Mexican government implied working with sanctuary cities, areas with policies that protect undocumented immigrants.

“Reinforce dialogue with local and state authorities, in the understanding that local policies determine, in good measure, the daily life of Mexicans in the U.S.,” reads step nine of the Mexican government’s plan.

This plan has been crafted in reaction to Trump’s plans to deport millions of illegal immigrants in his first few months. However, some mayors of sanctuary cities are planning to not cooperate with federal officials.

The plan also includes measures to improve relationships with civil rights groups and will offer “toll-free numbers for Mexicans to call in case of emergency or for assistance with paperwork, promotion of a mobile app for Mexican citizens abroad and expansion of consular service hours.”

Legal assistance will also be provided to help this group obtain birth certificates in both Mexico and America

There were 11.6 million Mexican immigrants in the U.S. in 2014, 5.8 million of which are undocumented, according to Pew Research Center.

There are over 200 state and local jurisdictions that are defined as sanctuary cities, reports CNN.

Trump has made it clear that sanctuary cities will received less federal funding if they give him any pushback, but Chicago’s mayor is ready to oppose the federal government over new immigration laws.

“I would say to the president-elect, that the idea that you’re going to penalize Boston, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, Philadelphia – these are the economic, cultural, and intellectual energy of this country,” said Rahm Emanuel, Chicago’s mayor in a radio interview, per Fox News.

Bill de Blasio, New York Mayor, went just a far as saying he would destroy the database of undocumented immigrants in the city before handing it over to the Trump administration.

“The values, laws, and policies of Washington, D.C., did not change on Election Day,” said Muriel Bowser, Mayor of the District of Columbia. “We are a sanctuary city because we know that our neighborhoods are safer and stronger when no one is afraid to call on our government for help, and when our police can focus on protecting and serving.”

But, who are these cities really protecting?

Cheryl Chumley, an award-winning freelance journalist, points to Kate Steinle, a woman who was murdered by an illegal immigrant who had been deported multiple times, but made his way to San Francisco and was able to live freely due to the city’s sanctuary policy.

“If police chiefs, city officials and liberal-leaning bureaucrats fail to uphold the safety of American citizens and regard that job description as the number one priority, and instead insist on forcing a personal political open-border agenda down the throats of the communities they’re supposed to serve and protect, they should lose taxpayer support,” said Chumley.

Trump said in his 60 Minutes interview, he plans to focus on illegal immigrants with criminal records.

Author’s note: The federal government cannot govern without the cooperation of local police. If these cities undermine federal law by ignoring new immigration legislation, Trump has made it clear there will be consequences. Illegal immigrants, many of which with criminal backgrounds, will start to migrate to these areas looking for “protection.” Look at what happened in Germany with the migrant crisis and how the country is now in chaos. Not only will these sanctuary cities get less financial support from the federal government, but the crime rates are also bound to rise.

Editor’s note: I’m willing to bet if Trump pulls their funding the leaders of these cities will find themselves on the outside, looking in.

Also this can be considered a subversive act by Mexico and perhaps an act of war. Sine NAFTA negotiations are coming up, I doubt they will follow through if Trump applies pressure.
