HORIST: The left sides with Iran … every time

I suppose it should come as no surprise that our left-wing Democrats (but I repeat myself) are reading off the script written in Tehran.  After all, whenever there is the remotest possibility of blaming the United States in general – and President Trump specifically – you can count on the Democrats to side with each and every international critic – friend and foe, alike.  What else would one expect from the folks who refuse to stand for the National Anthem and burn the American flag like they do in Iran?

The most recent exhibition of America last mentality is over Iran.  That’s right.  Our friends on the left are ramping up their support for the Mullahs in Tehran.  They have two narratives.

The first implies that Iran is a well-intentioned nation and they are not doing any of the awful things that our intelligence community is saying – along with the intelligence communities of many of our allies.  Irani President Hassan Rouhani says that they are not attacking the oil tankers, and the American left says there is not proof of the administration’s claim.  When proof is shown, they say it is not convincing.

They brush aside the alps of evidence that Iran is a rogue nation that oppresses its own people and promotes – nay, sponsors – terrorism across the globe.  In fact, Tehran is the number one funder of the most brutal and heinous terrorist organizations on Earth, including al Qaeda, Hamas, Hezbollah and any number of ad hoc groups.  Those are less important than the self-flagellating attacks on America.

The second narrative is inconsistent with the first, but that makes no difference to the left.  Their negativism is not based on fact or principle – just politics.  In this version, they say that Iran may, indeed, be behind the attacks on the oil tankers – and other international crimes of violence – BUT that, too, is our fault.  They would not be doing such dastardly things if it were not for Trump’s policies – especially withdrawing from the nuclear deal.

As might be expected, Congresswoman Ilhan Omar has become the personification of that line of reasoning, and she is not subtle in her claims.  She recently tweeted:

None of this would be happening if Trump didn’t back out of the Iran nuclear deal.  America’s response should be to return to the table and reinstate the Iran nuclear deal.  Increasing tensions and threats of war serve nobody’s interests.

It would most certainly NOT serve the interests of America to continue to stand aside as Iran spreads terrorism, increases its hegemony over more real estate in the Middle East.  Passive diplomacy is precisely what got us into this situation.

And for all the left’s praise of the Iran Nuclear Deal, it was a bad deal for the United States because it allowed – and even helped finance – an increase of aggressive activities by Iran.  And, it did not prevent Iran from gaining atomic weaponry.  At best, it only delayed it.  As was true in the past, if we do not fix the problem now, it will be a much bigger problem in the future.

Should Iran ever acquire nuclear weapons, it would set off rampant nuclear proliferation of the Middle East.  There is hardly a nation in that long-troubled part of the world that would not see the need to defend themselves with a nuclear arsenal.  It would significantly increase the eventual use of nuclear weapons.

Whether it comes to limited military intervention – or more – is up to Iran.  The goal is to stop Tehran from exporting terrorism and from getting nuclear weapons BY WHATEVER MEANS POSSIBLE.  The left would take military intervention off the table.  That is just plain nuts.  That goes back to the old Washington establishment policy of “we talk, they ignore.”

One of the greatest threats to American security and world peace is the fact that we no longer believe that partisan politics ends at the water’s edge.  The left is now imposing their perceived partisan benefits on world affairs.  If that means we turn our back on the American administration to give aid and comfort to our adversaries, so be it.

If there is anything that should bring all good Americans together, it is the recognition of Iran as a rogue nation capable of terrible acts against humanity.  They exist as an international counterpoint to the very freedoms we supposedly embrace.  In terms of Iran, it is time to rally around the flag … oh … I mean OUR flag.

So, there ‘tis.
