Did I miss my invitation to the ongoing insurrections?
After elevating a nasty riot into an insurrection … and an insurrection into a coup … and now we have that attempted coup transformed into an ongoing effort to turn America into an authoritarian state led by Republicans. Of course, it is all political propaganda emanating from a Democratic Party hoping to become a one-party authoritarian leadership.
Yeah! The best way to preserve a people-based democracy is to have one party govern from the top down – the top being the central government in Washington, D.C. ruled over by a permanent establishment of bureaucrats and elected officials of one party. We can see how well that system works in countries like China, Russia, North Korea, and even Cuba.
From January 6, 2021, to today, I have seen a demonstration get out of hand – turn into a riot. I have seen that dynamic many times in many cities across America. However, I have never seen the Washington establishment take such interest in a riot – or devote so many resources to puff it up into a Republic-ending narrative. The problem with the narrative is that the evidence does not uphold the spin.
After more than one and a half years – and more than 800 arrested for their activities on Capitol Hill on January 6 – less than half a dozen folks have been charged with Seditious Conspiracy. The vast majority of the 800 arrestees have been charged with crimes commonly associated with … riots. Such things as trespassing and vandalism.
Speaker Pelosi’s one-sided prosecutorial committee is blowing a lot of hot air about attempted coups, sedition, and treason. So far, no one has come close to being indicted for such crimes much less convicted.
The attempted coup narrative is so silly that it is amazing that anyone would take the accusations seriously. Perhaps it is because a corrupt and biased news media have given the Democrats narratives undeserved credibility.
But now we have the claim of an ongoing assault on America’s democratic institutions. According to those on the left, we are in the midst of a rolling coup attempt. It is happening every day. Her greatest fear is what Maya Wiley, of the New York Times, told MSNBC’s “Morning Joe’s” audience — that we are imperiled by an “ever present threat” from what she called “an ascendant movement” to overthrow the American government. She insisted that we “must accept the fact” that there is a serious ongoing attack on the nation’s democratic institutions. Really? Just like a liberal telling what we the people must believe.
The show also featured Michael Beschloss – billed as a historian (because he wrote a couple books) – who took the issue into political hyperspace. His “evidence” of the ongoing coup attempt was making up narratives of things that did not happen.
What if the box of electoral ballots had been taken by the mob? And what if the mob had seized Vice President Pence as a hostage – or even worse, used the gallows constructed outside the Capitol Building as a symbolic statement to actually lynch Pence?
Apparently Bechloss forgot that he is supposed to play the role of historian – and not a creative fiction writer. That is the problem. All that coup talk is hyperbolic or purely speculative.
The facts tell another story. The riot on Capitol Hill lasted about four hours. The rioters were essentially unarmed – something you would not expect of a real coup attempt. The riot caused less damage … less injury … and less death than those iconic riots that have plagued our major Democrat-controlled cities for generations. And in those cases, we have the police stand down and very few get rioters charged with anything. It is all part of the Democrats catch-and-release program (which apparently does not apply to conservative folks).
Following the January 6 riot, we were told that there would be disruptions across the nation led by violent insurrectionists. That never occurred. On the first anniversary, Democrats warned of a major assault on the Republic in D.C. and across the nation. In that case, Speaker Pelosi used her authority to bring out the National Guard and erected tall fencing around the Capitol Building. Approximately 100 people showed up – outnumbered by media and law enforcement – to listen to speakers and depart in about one hour. Nothing across the nation.
We are told how the coup plotters would be interfering with elections. Since January 6, 2021, there have been dozens –perhaps hundreds – of elections in every state. None were disrupted. There were hardly any challenges to the outcomes. It was basically business as usual for the electoral process.
Of course, no coup attempt can take place without the support of the military. From January 6 to today, I am unaware of any efforts by the military to support an overthrow of the government. If you hear of any, let me know.
We had a terrible riot on January 6, 2021. Folks on all sides of the political divide condemned it – and called for the rioters to be punished. They disrupted the certification by a couple hours. There was no threat to the Republic. No threat to America’s democratic institutions.
The original alleged coup attempt – and the ongoing coup attempt it is supposed to have sired – is political fiction on the grand scale. The Select Committee is not trying to get at the truth, but to propagate the Democrats’ BIG LIE.
As President Lincoln noted … you cannot fool all the people all the time. Fortunately, the Democrat strategy of gaslighting the American public is fooling fewer and fewer people every day.
So, there ‘tis.
Oh, it’s midterm season and Larry’s fear mongering against everything Democrat rages on. Larry, you’ve already told us you’re gonna win big-time, that abortion and trying to overturn the election or nothing burgers. While the hoopla?
Larry, it’s not 800 arrests, it’s over 850, with about 350 still to come if we can find the people. It is not a half dozen people charge with seditious conspiracy, I believe that’s the number of people have played guilty to seditious conspiracy. The actual number is about a dozen. There’s also about 150 people charged with assaulting police. And another 50 people charged with conspiracy, mostly to overturn the election.
And more charges and higher charges may still yet be forthcoming. Not to mention, what the DOJ finds in looking at similar things that the select committee is looking at. We already know the DOJ is investigating Trump and everything below.
While I agree with you that watching MSNBC and their nonstop fear mongering as to the end of the republic, I hope you do see that perhaps something should change if we don’t want this to happen again.
And while yet another Larry tirade on democratic cities and people standing down for riots, I’m ever hopeful that you don’t plan to implement that process at the capital and stand down from the next riot. While that would have saved some police injuries and the stupid woman, I do believe they would’ve harmed Mike Pence and stopped the election.
Please Larry get your numbers right. And be comprehensive about your coverage. Otherwise you fall into the same trap of cable news.
And to add to that Frank, “essentially unarmed” as Larry says is not the same as “unarmed” as required by law at the Capital. And the electoral process was not stopped by “a couple of hours” as Larry says, it was stopped for 8 hours total. And Mike Pence was calling in the National Guard while Trump sat on his big fat ass and watched in hopes it would succeed – the riot was the back up plan for Trump to steal the election. There was damage to the Republics reputation. It used to be as a USN veteran I was proud to say the USA has never had violence in the transition of power. I can no longer say that. Trump ruined that for me!
And Larry forgot about the home made bombs that were found in the trashcans as well as the 11 molitov bottle bombs found in someones car trunk and several stashes of high power rifles found in trunks.
I caught the “essentially,”a Larry weaseling if there ever was one. Apparently, Larry is not watching the select committee where Republicans testified that Trump even knew about the A.R. 15’s in the crowd. Not to mention a lovely fella with a special flag pole with a sharp and spear tip at the end that he had specially added and enjoy showing the crowd. Essentially a spear.
And buildings burned in Portland and other cities. Insurrection? Look past your nose dumbass
Jesse, I don’t know how many times you have to say it but anyone who breaks the law should be arrested, put on trial, and convicted if guilty.
A number of people during the summer Floyd were convicted of felonies including property and harm to others. Yes, just like the Trumplicants at the capital, they were for the most part misdemeanors and they suffered those convictions accordingly. As in a light sense. But to say that people who did Felonise during the summer of Floyd got a free ride, just look it up, there’s over 14,000 and arrested, a hell of a lot of Felonise, and quite a few more jail sentences and extra time than the white boys in Washington got. Get over yourself at least look it up before you spew. I have posted the numbers and links and other places here, I would direct you, but Joe is too cheap the parade decent search engines.
But you are way off base in your assumptions.
Additionally, many of the felonies during the summer Floyd were charged against Trumplicants trying to start a race war. They went to jail too.
I just wish one of you guys would actually provide some facts, some sources, some links, rather than just baying at the moon and screaming at people. Learn how to debate,, how to create a cogent argument. Maybe one with some supporting facts, a link or two.
Yours is the diatribe of a wimp.
And listen to Larry’s dig at Michael Beschloss – the guy is a Harvard grad, has written 9 books on Presidential history, and has earned 15 or 20 awards for his writings. Meanwhile, Larry is writing for a couple of right-wing nut job websites with a couple of hundred readers (and I’m probably overestimating).
Larry also writes “Of course, no coup attempt can take place without the support of the military.” Besides the fact that there are dozens or hundreds of Secret Service and military officials who “accidentally” deleted all their texts, and part of the support of the miliitary was NOT showing up in a time of (planned) crisis, I would disagree. Trump and his co-conspirators lined up fake electors and had members of Congress ready to vote on canceling the results of the election and declaring him the winner. The riots were plan A and colluding with Republicans to steal elections was plan B. That is definitely a coup attempt.
Larry talks about the small number of people in the riot that were arrested for seditious conspiracy, etc. as if a small number is all that relevant. Obviously, he has not been watching the the testimony from the various Republicans. He does not realize that the small number of oath keepers etc. were just the tip of the spear and by definition a very small number of people who did not communicate their plan very widely for obvious reasons. They were in place before the crowd appeared. If they were a large number, I believe the outcome would’ve been different. That is, if the police saw a giant number of people coming armed towards the capital, I believe the outcome would’ve been different.
The crowd, which Trump wielded, was the shaft of the spear in order to provide cover and confusion, which they did in a most excellent fashion, if you’re into storming the capital that is. Meanwhile, the tip of the spear would move from access point access point finding the easiest access in as if by plan. Sense, Republican senators provided a guided tour the day before, I’m sure they had a pretty good idea the various access points. Of course, they are leaves out the fact that senators are actually helping them because apparently he has not watched the testimony. Meanwhile, there were many weapons stored off-campus within easy access so that when martial law was declared by trump, under the oft trump discussed, insurrection act, the tip of the spear could participate, God knows how, but we can hope not as trump’s SS troopers.
The other thing Larry leaves out, I guess because he’s not watching the testimony from other Republicans, was the testimony to the Mike Pence comment that while he trusted his Secret Service handler, he did not necessarily trust the Secret Service driver enough to get into the car. To me, that’s a telling testimony as to who owned the moment.
But Kyle Rittenhouse emerged as the hero
Kyle Rittenhouse was at the Capitol on January 6? Man, you Guys have your tinfoil hats on way too tight
No. He wasn’t at the White House as far as I know
The select committee hearings are trying to do nothing more than to bring the truth to the American people. You were invited but chose to obstruct, and when that didn’t work, boycott..
I can now understand why you are terrified of learning the truth, even if you believe the truth is from biased, edited, sources, without adversarial response, it is terrifying. Especially when the biased source are all Republicans.
Many sources have offered to refute these brave Republicans, not have come forward to testify. Even if they were not allowed, there are many other avenues for them to get this information to the American public, they have not except for innuendo. They have not step forward. They are not as brave like the Republicans who have testified.
Now, you’ll get your way one more time as the DOJ continues the process of following the rule of law. You will get your advocarial challenge.
You’ve had two chances to impeach this guy, on the first you were correct to deny based on the evidence, on the second you were blinded by partisanship, you should’ve impeached, he is guilty. You do have one more chance to avoid the rule of law. Impeach the guy. Quickly.
One way or the other, this is over, It just gets more tawdry and gory from here on in.
Where was the select committee when Obama allowed and caused illegal guns to be smuggled into Mexico? You people are so double standard it’s sickening
No double standard. You control the house then. You failed.
But to judge trumps bad deeds is OK because someone else did a bad did is not logical. We don’t absolve someone because someone else did something bad.
Or maybe you do. Will you work your way to Hitler soon? He makes Trump look really good.
Given time, Trump would be right behind Hitler… Luckily, Trump is pretty stupid and started at a much older age than Hitler.
Yeah, like that’s original, compare him to Hitler…
