President Biden was able to push off a number of serious scandals past the 2020 presidential election – scandals that may well have cost him the election. Will he be able to do it again before the 2024 presidential election? Most notable among them are the various issues raised by Hunter Biden’s laptop.
Biden’s efforts to keep his and his family’s scandals out of the news were successful because he had help. First and foremost, Biden benefited from a crony media that would protect him no matter how serious or well-documented the accusations were.
The Biden campaign claimed that the laptop did not belong to Hunter – and the media proffered the same lie. They floated a narrative that it was a disinformation campaign by Russian operatives.
One of the more disturbing aspects of the charade was the fact that the FBI and the CIA participated in the fraud in order to help Biden win the election – or more likely, to prevent President Trump from winning reelection.
Former CIA Deputy Director Michael Morrell testified before Congress that he had arranged to have 51 former CIA agents issue a public letter claiming that the laptop story was a Russian disinformation ploy. It is important to keep in mind that this was a political trick carried out for the sole purpose of protecting Biden in the midst of a highly contested campaign.
Among the signatories was Jeremy Bash – a frequent guest on leftwing cable shows. He is also the husband of CNN’s leftwing personality, Dana Bash. (Interesting, how the leftwing media and leftwing government work in tandem.)
A number of signatories were later provided with jobs in the Biden administration — including Bash, who was appointed to Biden’s Intelligence Advisory Board. Bash had also put Morell in touch with Steve Ricchetti, Biden’s campaign chairman, who thanked Morrell for orchestrating the phony letter. Biden referred to the phony letter in his final debate with Trump.
The CIA was not alone in propping up the false claim that the Hunter laptop was a Russian creation. FBI officials also endorsed that narrative – without an investigation or scintilla of evidence.
(If that has a familiar foul smell, you may be recalling the Steele Dossier – another anti-Trump phony document created by Democrats – specifically the Clinton campaign — and promoted by the same FBI and leftwing media. And the Dossier was part of the equally phony Russian conspiracy narrative.)
The disinformation campaign was so successful that reports linking the laptop – and the damning information contained on it – were ridiculed and literally censored. The story detailing the contents of the laptop appeared on the front page of the New York Times. When it was posted on Twitter, it was taken down as fake news. Facebook also censored claims that the laptop belonged to Hunter.
That treatment continued until major publications like the New York Times and the Washington Post could no longer deny the legitimacy of the story – and the contents of the laptop, including its ownership by Hunter Biden.
But even as Hunter’s problems multiplied, the stories were not given appropriate coverage by the major media. Hunter’s involvement with a corrupt Ukrainian energy company, millions of dollars from American adversaries – China and Russia – unpaid child support, failure to register as a foreign agent, and possible tax fraud was played down in the media.
Then there were the activities of the President’s brother Frank — and that 10 percent of the money that was earmarked for “the big guy.” There can be no mistake about who “the big guy” is.
How will Attorney General Merrick Garland deal with Biden’s stash of White House Documents? Yes, it is different than Trump’s problem – but it is starting to look less innocent than Biden first suggested.
Like President Trump, Biden also has an unresolved case of alleged sexual assault. Tara Reade accused Biden of forcibly penetrating her with his finger. Like all the other Biden scandals, that case has been ignored. Other women complained about Biden’s inappropriate touching and kissing. Unlike Trump, Biden’s past stories do not get permanently recycled by the media.
While all these scandals have been dropped from public conversations over the years, they have not gone away entirely. In fact, they seem to be heating up. The Department of Justice – after dragging its feet for several years – appears to be undertaking a serious investigation of Hunter Biden on tax issues.
The mother of Hunter’s love (?) child is asking a court to lock up the First Son for not obeying court orders to turn over financial records in conjunction with the paternity case. That could open up a much larger issue for Hunter. While the request is to determine his ability to pay child support, a complete look at his financial dealings in recent years could be a treasure trove of evidence for prosecutors.
Then there is Hunter’s failure to file as a foreign agent and his lying to get a gun. Then there is the question as to whether Hunter’s exorbitant art sales are a veiled influence peddling racket.
It is a little more than one year to the 2024 presidential election – and Biden will be seeking a second term. Can he outrun the scandals for a second time? Time will tell.
So, there ‘tis.
