Biden’s War On Gas Stoves

Biden’s War On Gas Stoves

The Biden administration launched a war against gas stoves, claiming they create harmful pollutants and may contribute to asthma in children.

On Monday, an agency commissioner with the U.S. Consumer Product and Safety Commission (CPSC) told Bloomberg that a ban on gas stoves in homes is “on the table,” citing the appliance’s link to serious health conditions such as respiratory illness, cancer, and childhood asthma.

Natural gas stoves are used in about 40% of homes in the U.S. The administration claims gas stoves emit air pollutants such as nitrogen dioxide, carbon monoxide, and fine particulate matter at levels the EPA and World Health Organization have said are unsafe and linked to respiratory illness, cardiovascular problems, cancer, and other health conditions, according to reports by groups such as the Institute for Policy Integrity and the American Chemical Society.

Indoor air pollution is the pollution (or contamination) of the indoor air caused by pollutants and sources like Carbon Monoxide, Particulate Matter (PM 2.5), Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), Radon, Mold, and Ozone.

Consumer Reports, in October, urged consumers planning to buy a new range to consider going electric after tests conducted by the group found high levels of nitrogen oxide gases from gas stoves.

“This is a hidden hazard,” Richard Trumka Jr., an agency commissioner, said in an interview. “Any option is on the table. Products that can’t be made safe can be banned.” He added the commission could consider imposing new emissions standards on the appliances. Trumka is one of several commissioners on the CPSC.

The study, which was led by the environmental think tank RMI, suggests that nearly 650,000 cases or 12.7% of childhood asthma can be attributed to gas stove use. Asthma affects about 5 million children across the country.

Scientists and activists cheer the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s recent decision to weigh new regulations on indoor air pollution from gas stoves,

The Future of Your Gas Stove

The low cost of natural gas has been a sigh of relief for Europeans caught in the middle of one of the worst energy crises in history because of the debacle in Ukraine.

Large cities like Los Angeles and New York are leading the way in banning natural gas appliances in new homes and buildings, and California, where natural gas produces 5% of the state’s air pollution each year, is also on track to ban furnaces and water heaters that rely on the energy source by 2030.

The New York City Council voted in 2021 to ban natural gas hookups in new buildings smaller than seven stories by the end of this year.

Consumers who want to switch from gas to electric ranges can get help from the Inflation Reduction Act, which includes rebates of up to $840 for purchasing new electric ranges as part of some $4.5 billion in funding to help low/moderate-income households electrify their homes.

The American Gas Association, a powerful trade group representing the U.S. natural gas industry, slammed the study’s methodology and findings, accusing the authors of pursuing a “headline-grabbing approach” that lacked scientific rigor.

“The claims made in this paper are clearly driven by simple advocacy-based modeling and hypotheticals over the deep and sophisticated analysis we should see in sound science,” Karen Harbert, the association’s president and chief executive, said in an emailed statement.

“The authors conducted no measurements or tests based on real-life appliance usage, emissions rates or exposures, and did not adequately consider other factors that are known to contribute to asthma and other respiratory health outcomes,” Harbert added.

Twenty states, whose consumption makes up about one-third of the U.S.’s total natural gas use, have passed legislation blocking any attempt to ban gas hookups in new construction.

Other Air Pollutants

There can be many other things that can pollute the air other than a kitchen gas stove.

Things like Climate Engineering can cause issues, which include an array of daily aluminum nanoparticles sprayed in the air we breathe, which the government claims help with the earth’s warming. These aluminum nanoparticles can cause asthma and pulmonary disease and penetrate the brain in the areas most affected by Alzheimer’s disease.

Gas advocates argue that gas appliance health concerns are minuscule compared to other things like cigarettes. Environmental law experts say gas stoves are “low-hanging fruit.”

Under the Clean Air Act, the Environmental Protection Agency has the authority to regulate outdoor air pollution from cars, power plants, and other sources. But the agency lacks the power to regulate indoor air pollution from gas stoves and other appliances.

MAYBE IF BIDEN WOULD USE THE LITTLE ENERGIE HE HAS ON GOVERN THE COUNTRY INSTEAD OF GAS STOVES WE ALL WOULD BE BETTER OFF. NEVER HEARD OF ANYONE GETTING BREATHING PROBLEMS FROM THEM.
DEMOCRATS ARE TOTAL LOSERS WHEN IT COMES TO TAKE CARE OF THIS COUNTRY.

This a distraction ! Secret Docs, Hunter Biden, deadly vacs., I legal immigration, etc. etc.

Yup. There are more and more of us who are waking up to that fact. But this does give one pause: The nut should be locked in a small cell — ala J6 innocents — fed tofu through a small hole in the wall, provided a tape recorder and a bucket. Period. We shoot coyotes for sheep and pet destruction. We won’t shoote THIS one. But at least he’d be removed from society.

Old bonehead is at it again! If we start reducing the number of gas appliances, then we’ll need to go with electric as a replacement! Our electrical grid is out of date and over-taxed now! You are adding EVs to the grid with no updates, and now you want to add more 240-volt electrical appliances to add to the drain on the system! How stupid can they get?!?!

what a terrible journalist, not even a wannabee. how about responding to this:

“”The President does not support banning gas stoves — and the Consumer Product Safety Commission, which is independent, is not banning gas stoves,” a White House spokesperson told CNN.”

Statement of Chair Alexander Hoehn-Saric Regarding Gas Stoves
    January 11, 2023
Over the past several days, there has been a lot of attention paid to gas stove emissions and to the Consumer Product Safety Commission. Research indicates that emissions from gas stoves can be hazardous, and the CPSC is looking for ways to reduce related indoor air quality hazards. But to be clear, I am not looking to ban gas stoves and the CPSC has no proceeding to do so.

CPSC is researching gas emissions in stoves and exploring new ways to address health risks. CPSC also is actively engaged in strengthening voluntary safety standards for gas stoves. And later this spring, we will be asking the public to provide us with information about gas stove emissions and potential solutions for reducing any associated risks. This is part of our product safety mission – learning about hazards and working to make products safer.

    Alexander Hoehn-Saric

    WANNA BET NO RESPONSE.

The “White House Spokesperson” is the biggest liar on the planet (which she does on behalf of Biden). This is the Biden Administration catering to the climate change extremists. And if it is not covered properly by a responsible press you will find reps from your local power company coming into your house to shut off your gas. And unlike with firearms, there is no National Stove Association to call BS.

Frank, stop kneejerking and try something thoughtful for a change.

      • Frank stetson

According to joe, The White House spokesman is a liar.

According to joe, Biden is a liar.

According to joe, The chair of the consumer product commission is a liar.

It must be very convenient for Joe and the right wing blogosphere to call out anything they don’t like as a lie. Al Gore would call that a convenient truth..

History has shown that you don’t have a good track record for finding and telling the truth. Far as I can tell, the head of the consumer product commission has not lied yet.

The White House spokesman is just reiterating those words.

There is a credit for people who wanna migrate from gas to electric. I guess you’re against that too because it’s a lie. But it’s there, it is the truth. And if that scares you, you were scared anyway.

None of this to tracks from the story with very low journalistic professionalism. Lie or not, it is a major part of the story totally missed.

        • Theodore

In all actuality, they ARE all liars and if you really think that they aren’t, then you must be one too. After all, you are on these sites every day spewing your version of whatever is being brought up at the time, and it is ALWAYS contradictory to the subject. Why don’t you get a REAL life and quit wasting everybody’s time with your version of the truth.

    Natural Gas Burns Clean.
The only danger is if air enters the line.
For that reason you can not shut the valve to peoples homes so easy.
People can still keep warm and your power bill just increases.

Removing this option with electric means the Gov can freeze you out with the flip of a switch.

Sorry, now power today! You should have voted for my party!

  6. 9mm

Here I’m now older than dirt but we started using gas stoves to heat and cook when I was 9yo and this bs Biden is bs given us by your socialist tribe of China or was it Soros?

  7. bob

Perv Biden should worry more about replacing slut Jills kneepads instead of carrying on about gas stoves !!!

    • Frank stetson

Another third grade response that he has has the bravery to spew as a fictional poster who doesn’t have the balls to do in public.

This fool couldn’t come up with a cogent argument if his miserable life depended on it.

He just demeans people, their spouses, whatever as he hides behind his little screen. Probably gets a woody from it that he shares with his dog. Oh I take that back. Dog won’t even lick that, and it likes licking its own ass. Another thing they have in common.

Come on, make an intelligent comment. I DARE YOU.

      • Theodore

When have you EVER made an intelligent comment on these sites? I’d wait for an answer, but I’m already getting old and have much better things to do.

        • Mack ewing

So Frank and his retarded group doesn’t see that the democrats want to be dictators so badly they can taste it. But someday enough will be enough. We’re almost there.

          • Frank stetson

            I have a group now!

  8. Stephen Riggs

If they totally ban gas stoves and heaters then, to be consistent, they must totally ban all tobacco products. But they won’t do that because most tobacco growers are democrats.

  9. frank stetson

Do you folks always have your balls in a vise?

This time the culture wars move to your kitchen since some CPSC schmuck said the CPSC will be looking at gas stoves this week and everything is on the table. Not the smartest choice of words in the unwoke world of culture wars.

Given me liberty or give me gas was the rallying cry and on PBP it devolved into:

“The Biden administration launched a war against gas stoves” when it was one CPSC schmuck, not even the lead schmuck. The CPSC is an independent agency of the government. Only three members of the five commissioners can be of one party and all are Senate confirmed. A number of these guys are Trump nominations.

And then to top it off, the heaviest prevenance of the gas stove is in blue states. I have one so I thank you Republicans for your service. But:

“This is the Biden Administration catering to the climate change extremists.” No, it’s the CPSC catering to safety….as is their job. THERE IS NOT MUCH CLIMATE CHANGE GOING ON HERE. At least according to the AGA stating: “The AGA says methane emissions from gas utilities account for 2.7% of all greenhouse gas emissions, and they’ve declined nearly 70% since 1990” Plus 40% of our electric is gas generated so replacing stoves would just shift the source in many cases from home to electric plant not reducing the carbon footprint at all.

Yet the culture war Gods must be fed, sacrifices must be made; Desanctimonious needs a virgin soundbite. Here on PBP, a safety commission looking at a product to improve safety results in battle results in cries of:

“this bs Biden is bs given us by your socialist tribe of China or was it Soros?”

“Perv Biden should worry more about replacing slut Jills kneepads instead of carrying on about gas stoves !!!”

“the democrats want to be dictators so badly they can taste it. But someday enough will be enough. We’re almost there.”

We are almost there. Bring it on and quit your whinng. Otherwise, make it Constitutional: “A well regulated kitchen, being necessary to the security of the family and a free home, the right of the people to keep and bear gas stoves, shall not be infringed.”

At the Canadian border, Buffalonians were heard to cry that famous Alamo line: “Remember the low flush toilet.” (I actually used to make money by toilet-running from Canada…..and yes, it was not legal, but safer than hash. Amazingly once stopped, they searched for hash and missed all those toilets heading to Montana…..)

Folks, this is not part of your culture war, no one is coming for our gas stoves. I love mine, but it I can make it safer, shit yeah, I will. And, if anything, that’s what will happen. New production, new building, that’s where enhancements, not replacement will occur. Even if not as safe as we want, gas stoves can be made safer. Mine for example is in a 1,500 square foot open space, not much bad stuff unless you are huffing the range. I have tested. Need a new one pretty soon so $800 to convert to electric might be interesting too. All love of gas aside, I will always look at a potential deal. Plus I will never get natural, have to use propane, and it is a bit costly. If I convert, then I can run it off my gas generator :>)

But seriously, give it a rest. This culture war battle is doa, everyone has retreated, you can back down. I know you hate Slate, but try a read on this one that pretty much sums it up and hopefully will unknot your knickers. https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2023/01/gas-stoves-republicans-joe-biden-culture-wars.html

Otherwise, I hope you will move onto the greatest restriction to our personal liberties: seat belts.

    • Don

I hate that word “ban” and am having none of it. The dictators are being emboldened. So what to do? Stand up and fight against this tyranny. And I don’t give a shit about global warming or carbon footprints. Let’s get it together and have nothing but a free country. I’ll never give up anything to satisfy a ban from Marxist assholes. And I’m representing many people who feel the same way.

  10. Grace Bruno

They’re worried about air pollutants but meanwhile they’re forcing injections on everyone that is killing people. Makes sense doesn’t it. And according to NASA humans have nothing to do with climate change. THe only thing that affects the climate is the sun. I think I believe their scientists over the ones waiting for their million dollar research grant annually. And someone should send a memo to the government that CO2 is NOT a pollutant. The more CO2 we have the greener everything is. Plants and trees need CO2 to survive . I’m starting to think no one in the government ever heard of photosynthesis or they slept through fourth grade science.

    • Frank stetson

      Forced vaccinations? I wish.

NASA says no climate change? I say no source.

Too much CO2 not a pollutant? Try a plastic bag over your head, no pollution there, it will be fine (sarcasm alert, do not try this at home.)

Ty dr grace…something tells me does not have ged….

THE DEMOCRATS ARE RUINING OUR WORLD.GAS STOVES ARE GREAT, WILL NEVER COOK ON A ELECTRIC STOVE.BIDEN NEEDS TO TAKE CARE OF AMERICANS. FORGET ALL THIS GREEN DEAL. WINDMILLS DO NOT WORK IN FREEZING WEATHER, NO WIND THEY DO NOT WORK, BUT KILL ALL THE BIRDS.
OZONE LAYER IS CLOSING, SO MUCH FOR CLIMATE CHANGE. JUST ANOTHER MONEY SPENDING CHARADE.PEOPLE WAKE UP BEFORE IT IS TO LATE. TELL BIDEN NO MORE SPENDING. NO MORE PRINTING MONEY, WE ARE BROKE. OUR CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN WILL PAY BACK ON BIDENS SPENDING SPREE.
MY UTILITY BILLS ARE 4 TIMES MORE UNDER BIDEN THEN TRUMP.
