Are Democrats that Stupid or Just Gas Lighting the Public?

Are Democrats that Stupid or Just Gas Lighting the Public?

I pose the headline question because have been listening to one Democrat after another – and every talking head on MS NOW – say that President Trump attacked Iran without a plan or a reason. They say the current situation it his fault for tearing up President Obama’s deal that would have prevented Iran from having nuclear weapons for ten years. (Yeah, I know that Democrats keep saying the deal prevented Iran from ever getting nuclear weapons, but that is … a bald-faced lie.)

The Legality

Democrats say that Trump’s action is illegal – that he had to get the approval of Congress. Not so. First of all, it is the Supreme Court that determines the legality of presidential actions — not a bunch partisan political hacks. I have not yet seen any Democrat running to the Supreme Court. Methinks, they know that Trump currently has the power under the War Powers Act and they would lose. Democrats are pushing for passage of a War Powers Resolution in an attempt to stop or restrain Trump. Hmmm. Would they be doing that if they really thought his actions were already illegal? Regardless, it is not likely to pass Congress – and if it did, Trump would simply veto it. It is an exercise in futility – the kind of meaningless theatrics Democrats love.

The issue of legality brings up another issue – one not raised by the press, unfortunately. Since many Democrats claim both the actions in Venezuela and now those in Iran are illegal actions, I would ask them if they believe Trump is a war criminal — and if they believe that the military – from generals to troops on the frontline – should disobey Trump’s orders. How would Arizona Senator Mark Kelly, and the others who appeared on those videos, respond?

Briefing Congress

Democrats complain that Trump failed to inform Congress and the American people what is on his him mind. They are bewildered as to why Trump chose this moment to launch the most powerful military in the world. They said that they were not consulted or advised.

Trump did brief Congress of his plan to launch the attack several hours before he pulled the trigger. The last-minute timing was likely because if he had laid out specific plans to them any earlier, you can rest assured that some Democrat would have telegraphed the plan to Tehran as soon as he or she could call a friendly reporter (probably at MS NOW).

The Plan

The claim that Trump did not have a well-considered plan is bullstuff. The Trump administration spent weeks and months drafting initial and contingency plans with staff and military advisors. How do those Democrats think all those military assets were moved like chess pieces into the region? By coincidence? What about the coordination with Israel? Was the mutual precision-timed attack another coincidence? What about all that impressive pre-attack intelligence? Was the killing of the Supreme Leader – and 40 other top officials – a lucky shot in the dark? The initial hours of the attack were executed with strategic brilliance. How could that happen without a plan? It is obvious to anyone with an IQ higher than the winning U.S. Olympic hockey score that there was a LOT of planning for weeks and months – plans that were extremely well conceived and well executed.

Informing the Public

And what about that nonsense that Trump had not told we the people his plans and his reasons. Were Democrat officials on some mental vacation since the New Year? Trump has issued public statements regarding actions against Iran if they failed to comply with basic demands – no nukes ever and an end to sponsoring terrorism. They refused to accept Trump’s demands – the same demands they ignored through decades of fruitless negotiation with a succession of American presidents.

Trump repeatedly said he would take military action if Iran refused to comply – and he did not rule out regime change. He told the Iranian people that help was on the way. What else did we need to know? You can hardly expect him to give the public specifics of when, where and how. If any Democrats did not know this was coming, they are stone-brained stupid.

The Reasons

Let us first deal with the reasons.

  • Among the reasons were stopping Iran’s continuing work on nuclear weapon technology and long-range missiles capable of striking the United States. Yes, Trump may have exaggerated the timing a bit (he is prone to hyperbole), but he was not wrong on the basic facts. Iran had not given up its ambitions to become a nuclear power – and they hostility to the United States has never abated.
  • Another reason was retribution for the millions of people – and hundreds of thousands of Americans – the regime killed and wounded across the globe over more than 40 years. Then there is Iran’s policy of hostage taking. Justice and accountability are very good reasons for the attack.
  • Another reason was consistent with America’s role in spreading democracy. Iran has a population that detests their oppressive leadership — which has murdered hundreds of thousands – if not millions — of its own people.
  • And yet Another reason was to stop Iran’s continuing to spread deadly Jihadist terrorism across the globe – with the primary enemies being Israel, the United States, the world democracies and any person or nation that are considered to be infidels (or kuffār) in the eyes of Iran’s Supreme Leader.

It is not as if Tehran had stopped the bad behavior. “Death to America” and “Death to Israel” were matters of policy to this day. They sponsored the October 7 massacre in Israel. They planned to assassinate Adel al‑Jubeir, the Saudi Arabian ambassador to the United States with a bomb in Washington, D.C. restaurants. (The perpetrators snuck over the American border under President Biden’s open borders policy. There is still a possibility of Iranian sleeper cells in the United States. Thanks, Joe). The regime in Tehran was exporting terrorism and slaughtering its own people even as the negotiations dragged on.

  • The option of regime change was always on the table. Trump could not, for obvious reasons (obvious to everyone except those on the never-Trump left) state that possibility publicly. But even I got the hint and wrote about it in a previous commentary. (Imagine that. I could read between the lines and deduce it as a possibility, and Democrats could not even read the writing on the wall.)
  • And then there is the oil. The Trump administration has been strategically interdicting the flow of oil to Cuba and China (a good thing). Cuba is on the ropes. That was one of the objectives for taking out Venezuelan dictator Nicolás  Maduro. (Other objectives included the removal of a murderous dictator who was an ally of Russia and China; and the liberation of the Venezuelan people.)

Democrats claim that Trump cannot keep his objective in mind. They accuse him of saying different things at different times. That is because ALL the aforementioned objectives stated by Trump are valid individually and collectively. There is no rule in war that you are only allowed to achieve one objective. The whiny Democrats appear to be incapable of complex thinking. For them, there is only one objective … Trump.

Why Now?

In questioning the timing of the attack, Democrat reach the nadir of stupidity. They say that negotiations were moving in the right direction. Uh huh! They have been “moving in the right direction” according to those on the left for 45 years – 45 years of bloodshed and global instability as those on the left kept negotiating … and negotiating … and negotiating. And Iran kept bombing … and killing … and taking hostages … and funding attacks on Israel and America … and moving to build nuclear weapons … and destabilizing the region.

The “enough is enough” moment for America was long overdue. Late, but better than a future with the most hated regime in the world — led by a murderous lunatic in the tradition of Adolf Hitler — continuing to disrupt and kill by the carload.

When Democrats rhetorically ask, “Why now?”, you know that are not paying attention or just peddling bogus political narratives. I have heard Trump and others repeatedly answer the “why now” question. Negotiations were going nowhere, as usual. The Iranians were playing their long-standing delay game. And perhaps more importantly, Iran is weaker today than at any time since the 1979 revolution. It seems Democrats would rather diddle and face the inevitable after Iran has nuclear weapons.

What about the Future?

No one has a crystal ball. Exactly how it will all play out is unknown. But I believe that the team in the White House has plans for a number of contingencies. Just because Democrats and the left-leaning media do not know something, does not mean that the folks in the White House do not have plans for future contingencies. The only thing we can say is that so far, things have gone very well – one might say “according to plan”.

What is With Those Democrats.

What is with all the gaslighting, the whining, the fearmongering and the baseless criticism? Democrats in and out of office are parroting Tehran propaganda – literally giving aid and comfort to the enemy. They said that America “negotiated in bad faith.” Former CIA Director John Brennan even accused the Trump administration of “duping” the Iranians. They say the attack was “reckless and “unnecessary”. They say that this was a “war of choice” – Trump’s war. They said that Iran “posed no imminent threat to the United States”. (That one is a doozy. Iran has been an imminent threat to the United States since the 1979 Islamic revolution. And there is a long trail of American blood to prove it.) That same language used by Tehran, China, Russia. In their irrational hatred of Trump, Democrats make common cause with America’s mortal enemies. As I said in a previous commentary, these Democrats are reprising the role of Tokyo Rose, the voice of anti-American propaganda in World War II.

Of course, there are Democrats who seem intelligent and rational. They are personified by the likes of Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman. He does not allow Trump Derangement Syndrome to deactivate his brain and twist his judgment. He is not alone, but it seems the partisan zombies in the Democratic Party hold the upper hand. And the left-wing media folks? They lost all journalistic integrity when Trump won in 2016.

We should all be able to agree that stopping Iran’s nuclear program, bringing justice and accountability to the past carnage, stopping future carnage, liberating the Iranian people, redirecting the flow of oil in America’s favor and ridding the planet of one of its worst despots are all good things … period. Trump deserves credit and the world’s thanks. But if Democrats want to stand with America’s mortal enemies, so be it. But we should keep their names in mind on Election Day.

So, there ‘tis.

Hamondung: just as you claim lies, but never can prove them, you cannot prove I am gaslighting people.
You talk big but never can back it up.

You seem inadequate to the very task you say is a no-brainer.

Larry asks: Are Democrats that Stupid or Just Gas Lighting the Public? Ans: neither. I did not read the article, it’s long and snoring and he seems to be taking a kitchen sink approach to rationalizing putting our kids in harm’s way. I scanned it, but it’s way too long so just a couple of comments.

Larry’s “First of all, it is the Supreme Court that determines the legality of presidential actions — not a bunch partisan political hacks” comes from the administration that claimed Goode and Prewitt were domestic terrorists leading other Republican leaders that Larry loves to call their deaths appropriate, even a good thing. No, Larry, extreme free speech does not require the SCOTUS. Both parties have pushed back on the War Powers Act over Congressional authority to declare war over the years.

Yes, many Presidents, both parties, have pulled this trick since 9/11 opened the door. But no one as egregious as to start a war currently touching over a dozen innocent countries, and increasing. The good news is no one likes the current Iranian regime.

Israel used Trump’s war as a pretense to invade Lebanon. I agree, Democrats are pissing up a rope on dinging the President for his pre-emptive strike authority with it’s follow-on full scale air war followed by who-knows-what. We can applaud the regime’s downfall while we consider the act illegal, just as your side, and probably you, considered past acts illegal when Democrats did it. Pretty soon Abby Gate and Benghazi will look like drops in the bucket compared to Trump’s choice. How many US embassies hit? How many Americans left stranded in the region with little heads-up before they were left behind? And now, death by friendly fire: how does that happen?

I think every day we see examples of how spontaneous this war was as a diversion from Trump’s domestic woes. Yes, the military has had their plan forever. They have lots of plans. Probably even a few for Iran alone. This plan was an attack by night to lower the risk to our forces. Either the Mosad or CIA, or both highlighted the opportunity of the leaders being together. Pretty sure Israel has agents deep in Iran. Our forces for air/missile attack were in place as Trump pre-parred for this potential option. Bibi probably said he’s going in and Trump agreed the time was nigh. The plan was changed to a daylight raid and assassination due seizing the opportunity being worth the risk.

FYI to those with Larry’s IQ: psst: we have plans for everything.

Maybe what I said is true about how it started, maybe it is not, but the point is if Trump had just said something like that, the truth, I believe there would be a lot less backlash. Instead, the dumb-shit, and his idiot cabinet said something different every time they opened their mouths, and something different from each other. And Larry has compiled the rationale salad that seems to include the kitchen sink.

Larrys’ rationale has at least seven different bullet points, some with multiple objectives. It’s longer than most of my comments and it has never been stated by Trump or any of his administration at one time, together, as Larry has. Could you imagine a rationale like that for WWII: no one would have signed up. No, Larry, every time they open their mouths, another story comes out. Put a timeline on your different bullet points to see them dribble out over time. Ever changing in priority. Like dung tossed against the wall to see what sticks. It seems whatever they say, it sicks for you. How about all the walk-backs like Rubio’s on Israel made us do it issued yesterday. When asked again about Israel goading us into war, he corrected himself with a “no they didn’t, I misspoke after the President told me so.”

Even you with your seven points of why we chose war can’t tell us Trump’s plan for the future: “No one has a crystal ball.” Ready, Fire, Aim. No end game. No goals. Why are we there and what is the mission? Just your seven points of word salad rationale that evolved over time. That’s not a clear goal, a clear mission, like Bush Sr. would have issued. None of these guys have a clue what war is; they’ve mostly spoken against it, ducked it in their lives with bone spurs, and have not a clue or wit of experience beyond being arm chair generals who play video games of war.

I think the best was Trump telling the Iranian people to rise up, we got your back, we’re in it to win it. And then less than 12 hours later Trump announces he would talk to the new regime, which is handpicked by the old regime, but the same or worse. The same tamp down he did in VZ after changing the regime’s leader but not the regime. He turned on the Iranian people faster than he threw the Kurds under the bus. Meanwhile the new regime leaders probably asked each other: “how did discussions with Trump work out the last two or three times? You go. No, you go.”

Larry, every Democrat is glad to see the regime toppled. Bad guys, bad thoughts, bad actions. How we did it, and what we do next raises questions, concerns, and fears that this old man does not know what he is doing.

I wonder how this affects his peace work in GAZA? Are we still taking Greenland? Canada? Or how does this affect the advancement of the Abrahams Accords? Sure ain’t gonna help lower our prices. We currently have many never-ending wars on Trump’s watch: GAZA, Lebanon, Ukraine, War on Immigrants, Venezuela, War on Drugs in the Caribbean and Pacific theaters, Syrian civil war, and did I miss one? Many of these are capricious wars of personal choice: Trump’s call. No, until the answers make sense, I think its fair to ask Congress to do its job and ask. At least.

    Eight months.

Idee: what traitorous remarks by dems has put our troops in harms way?

Isn’t it the President that put our troops, our embassy staffs, our trapped citizens, and innocents in over 12 nations and rising in harm’s way?

They are years away from the nuclear bombs your side has said they will have a nuclear bomb in six months; extended to two years from the date of Trump’s obliteration. This would be a tactical bomb, small, worthy of suitcases. The ability to build an ICBM delivery system for a big bomb would be 2035.

Bear in mind, that Republicans have been saying any day now since 2002.

Bear in mind the day Iran sets off a nuclear bomb, even tactical, over here, there is no Iran anymore. Just an unlivable radiation polluted box of sand.

IMO, while i think Trump capriciously entered his war of choice as Bibi, Mosad, maybe CIA informed him of the opportunity for many Iranian leaders to be in one place for assassination. I think he has a wide collection of reasons, one of which his not being an expert deal maker unless force or the threat of force is used. I think he hasn’t a clue what to do next after he levels the country and that’s the saddest part.

That said, I wish for the best and while a long shot, Trump could pull it off. The world, even the Arab nations hate this regime, but like the people. Not sure they have a single ally. Maybe the next regime will be better, maybe the people will rise up. Then again, maybe Iran will become a Russian or Chinese satellite, more likely Russian. Even then, maybe Trump will trade Ukraine for it…. And no way will they get a nuclear bomb in six months now, the ICBMs are out past 2035 now. But none of their knowledge is gone, all their enriched uranium is either buried from the first strike, or safely underground, so with our current strategy, we can blunt, delay, but not obliterate the program. Only a diplomatic solution can do that.

Most important is to save our sons and daughters fighting Trump’s war of choice. As with the citizens Trump has stranded these and our embassy staff that has not gotten out yet. Iran probably has 2,500 missiles left and thousands of drones. Their manufacturing, storage, and even launch pads are mostly undergrounds. Our military’ first wave was a fantastic play, stupendous success, but the going will get slower going forward. While Trump might pull this off, it’s a long shot, and if our sons and daughters sacrificed all just to slow Iran down, that will be a tragedy far worse than Abby Gate. If our embassies begin to lose staff, could diminish the tragedy that was Benghazi.
