Liberals have used the tech industry to censor conservative voices for years but now they are playing a different hand with Apple in a change-of-rules antic to save as many illegal aliens from arrest and deportation by the Trump administration as they can.

On December 13, a few dozen leftist protesters marched in downtown Portland (OR) to demand that Apple restore ICEBlock, an app that liberals used to alert people about the presence of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in their area. This would help illegals in the area hide or flee ahead of and during an ICE raid. ICEBlock had over a million users before Apple obeyed the Department of Justice (DOJ) directive in October to suspend the app as it could potentially endanger the safety of the federal agents in an area.

This move by Apple proved hurtful to the left’s anti-law enforcement agenda, and hence their demand for the restoration of the app. The Oregonian (December 14) described the downtown Portland protest as:

More than 30 protestors flew signs and sang satirical carols within view of security, employees and holiday shoppers just off the steps of the glassy Apple store at 450 S.W. Yamhill St.

Trying to make their call for restoring ICEBlock in the Apple Store an American issue, the leftists have decided to stamp the free speech slogan over their effort. Joshua Aaron, the developer of ICEBlock app, sued the Trump administration earlier this month on the allegation of violating people’s free speech rights. The lawsuit specifically accused the DOJ of violating the First Amendment and has asked a federal judge to offer legal protection against intimidation by Trump’s officials in the Homeland Security and Justice Department.

How many on the right, if any, will buy this free speech pretext of the liberals who cheered at conservatives and libertarians getting kicked out and blocked on X in the COVID years? Even the Republican President of the country Donald Trump was banned on Twitter under the site’s leftist management. But liberals fled the social media platform en masse once Elon Musk purchased it and made it a free-speech site.

With Apple, liberals had already started a breakup earlier this year when the tech giant’s CEO Tim Cook made a $1 million donation to the new Trump administration’s inaugural fund. Following this supposedly appeasement money, Apple also resumed advertising on Twitter (X). Macworld resented it and wrote (February 18):

It’s little wonder that people are upset with Apple. The company has clearly decided to buy itself access, no matter what the cost to its reputation and, yeah, gonna say it, the rest of us. You picked a really bad time to start being political, Apple. And we see you.

Why Liberals Want This Apple App Back?
