Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill Passes – America is Changed
President Donald Trump is about to notch the biggest legislative victory of his second term after the House passed his sweeping domestic policy bill early Thursday morning. The measure, which Trump proudly calls his “Big Beautiful Bill,” now heads to his desk for a signature that could reshape taxes, federal spending, and the social safety net for years to come.
The Final Vote and the Late-Night Drama
The vote capped days of high tension on Capitol Hill. After hours of overnight negotiations and arm-twisting, the bill passed the House by a narrow margin of 219 to 213. Just two Republicans—Representatives Brian Fitzpatrick and Thomas Massie—voted against it, joining all Democrats in opposition.
The drama reached a peak when House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries delivered the longest floor speech in modern House history. Using his “magic minute,” Jeffries spoke for more than eight hours, reading letters from Americans worried about losing Medicaid and warning the bill would deepen inequality. Republicans, meanwhile, accused Democrats of grandstanding to delay the inevitable.
Part of Trump’s Legacy
With this legislation, Trump has delivered on core promises he made on the campaign trail: deep tax cuts, huge spending increases for the military and immigration enforcement, and rollbacks of many policies from the Biden era. House Speaker Mike Johnson called it “a once-in-a-generation moment,” saying it would make America “stronger, safer, and more prosperous.”
This bill is likely to define Trump’s second term and could shape debates for years over the size of government, the future of clean energy, and America’s social safety net.
Key Points of the Bill
1. Permanent Tax Cuts
Extends the 2017 tax cuts, slashing corporate tax rates to 21% and locking in lower individual rates. Also adds new deductions for tips, overtime, auto loan interest, and a senior bonus deduction.
2. Expanded Defense and Border Funding
Provides $350 billion for border security, including 100,000 migrant detention beds and 10,000 new ICE agents. Funds the Golden Dome missile defense system and other military projects.
3. Cuts to Medicaid and Food Assistance
Introduces strict new work requirements for Medicaid and SNAP recipients, which could remove coverage from nearly 12 million Americans over the next decade.
4. Ends Clean Energy Incentives
Phases out tax credits for electric vehicles, solar panels, and other renewable energy by 2028.
5. Creates ‘Trump Accounts’
Launches new child savings accounts with an initial $1,000 government deposit.
6. Raises the Debt Ceiling
Lifts the debt limit by $5 trillion to keep the government solvent.
Who Are the Winners?
Corporate America
Businesses get permanent tax cuts, expanded deductions for equipment and R&D, and a lower estate tax. Manufacturers can fully write off the cost of new facilities.
Higher-Income Households
Top earners will see an average tax cut of $13,000 per year and an expanded deduction for state and local taxes.
Military and Border Agencies
The Pentagon and Homeland Security receive major funding boosts to expand operations.
Tipped and Overtime Workers
New deductions on tip income and overtime pay will lower taxable income for many hourly workers.
Who Are the Losers?
Low-Income Americans
Millions could lose Medicaid and SNAP benefits due to stricter work requirements and funding cuts.
Clean Energy Companies
Solar, wind, and EV industries face an abrupt end to federal tax incentives.
Rural Hospitals
With Medicaid cuts and fewer insured patients, many rural hospitals could face budget shortfalls or closures.
Deficit Hawks
The bill adds an estimated $3.3 trillion to the federal debt over 10 years.
Speaker Mike Johnson praised Trump for uniting the party behind a vision of smaller government and bigger opportunity. “This is a victory for every American who believes in hard work, prosperity, and a strong nation,” Johnson said.
Rep. Ralph Norman, who was persuaded by Trump to switch his vote, called the bill “the right thing to do at the right time.”
Democrats blasted the bill as a windfall for the wealthy at the expense of working families. Jeffries called it “reckless, regressive, and reprehensible,” warning it would “rip health care away from millions.”
Climate advocates called it “an all-out war on clean energy,” arguing it would set back progress on fighting climate change.
Trump has vowed to sign the bill by July 4. Once signed, many provisions—like tax cuts and border funding—will take effect immediately. The battle over how it reshapes America’s economy and safety net is only just beginning.

Trump’s bill does not have my support. Time will tell if the opposition’s warnings of the bitter consequences that will come with passing the bill into law will be fact in years to come and probably in the near term.
In my opinion this is Project 2025 coming to fruition in direct contradiction to Trump saying he didn’t know what Project 2025 is. That, as it turns out, was a lie. Project 2025 is found in this Bill and its author is in Trump’s administration.
It’s not good form for a president when he sets Independence Day as his specified day for him to sign a highly contentious critically consequential legislation. Trump’s signing this particular bill on July 4th is actively politicizing the day for his own benefit and that of his party alone. All others not pleased with Trump’s bill in the first place are doubly injured by Trump’s prioritizing this partisan win over the more important American Independence Day celebration of this country’s freedoms guaranteed for all.
All meaning every individual who stands on American soul; resident citizens, naturalized citizens, visitors from other nations, visa holders, migrants ( legal and undocumented), and all people without exception. Race, gender identification, national origin, and preferred faith and no faith. It, Independence Day, is a day we Americans celebrate our country’s birth as a nation.
Trump and his Republicans are out of step with all others who will be celebrating on the 4th of July as intended by the Founding Fathers. Those men of honor would be against Trump’s actions distracting attention away from our nation’s celebration of its Independence from England and its King.
It should be of some irony the Trump would celebrate the signing of his bill that appears as if it was written at the pleasure of a king like monarch, particularly on the day we celebrate independence from a king.
That is what makes Trump’s bill, his celebration and his intrusion on this nations sacred most celebration day, altogether ugly in every meaning possible.
Trump is again proving that his priorities are skewed to his personal benefit with out regard or empathy for other’s feelings and the real context for celebrating on July 4th every year.
Trump will spin it as much as he wants, but he has made his Republican Party debase themselves for his gain and high jacked Independence Day and repurposed the day to celebrate his signing with a different ceremony.
That Trump didn’t appear conflicted at all about the conflict of interest in his proposition and planned signing of legislation he surely would be signing this 4th of July is indicative of his malignant narcissist personality.
on America’s Independence Day.
This, Trump’s Bill, may define Trump 2.0 and his legacy as president.
I know that you hope that Trump failed with his bbb. It’s not perfect but it’s a heck of a lot better than anything that Biden did. Which was nothing. As for your opinion? They are like assholes. Everyone has one.
Not nice about the opinion matter, Uncle Tom.
But, you are free to have and speak your own opinion on all others’ opinions. I understand the freedom to express one’s own opinion probably brings on others’ exercising that same freedom by further more specific terms referencing another’s opinion as it being in total contradiction to your own opinion.
This is America land of the free and home of the brave. That means free to speak bravely, because others will probably take exception and decide their free right of protest seems right in response,
Oliver makes a right assumption that Trump’s esteemed legislation is about to change America. ‘Tis true America has never been perfect and has always stood to benefit from some tweaking and fine tuning so that fewer of we the people experience be left out and left behind in the Great America that this bill of Trump’s has targeted to receive additional benefits.
The First Amendment guarantees the most basic freedoms for Americans and others who in whatever capacity brings them onto America’s shores. The Amendment clearly spells out the rights covered under the freedom of(to) speak. Trump’s big bad bully of a bill and its debate(?) in Congress begs the question. Does the U.S. Constitution and its First Amendment yet guarantee its freedom with its attached rights equally to all who identify with being America’s, we the people of the U.S. of A.
Uncle Tom, you must know it’s illegal as it is unconstitutional for anyone in America, citizen or not to be denied any of the freedoms and rights written as definitions of said rights under law. Trump with Republicans Party assent has and is actively pursuing litigation in suits against people and organizations who have said or written words her sees are uncomplimentary and unfavorable about him and his presidency. Freedom of the Press id fundamental to sustaining a healthy free Democracy. When the Press or media is threatened and intimidated into silence and more circumspect writing in its published statements. That’s the mark of an authoritarian rule of law. From the bridling of the Press it is not a great leap for an authoritarian to blanket the citizenry with intimidation of the people to cease all types of communication believed by Trump as uncomplimentary and antagonistic to any degree.
Since Trump 1.0 the man has mobilized his followers across the country in his war against what he calls woke, lib, leftist, or anti Trump ideology they come across. He says, he endorses the First Amendment in public . But to his followers he says, screw the Constitution it’s out dated and he is about to fix it for just his followers and only if they remain loyal to him.
I am sorry for the right that Trump has taken the hostage, body, mind, and money. And money is what he values is close to one’s soul. In the decade since Trump descended on the escalator to the convention floor his primary efforts and others money he had dedicated to the continued and full indoctrination of his values, hid rules, his ideology, his branding of government apart from our democratic form, and his make over of America as was done in Hungary. Be aware UT so that his brand of common sense ridiculousness does not reorient your thinking to the detriment of your future beyond this Trump’s time of chaos in government and destabilization of America’s leadership among nations across the globe. He is making America weak and dismantling whatever Great was built by the strong Americans in past generations.
I see it’s emblematic of Trump that he targeted America’s Independence Day, July 4, for his signing of the bill that has Republican Party only worthy of what Trump has build stamped front and back. It, this bill’s passing Congress, is to him like the commemorative coins he had minted and sold at exorbitant prices. This all for him to line his pockets.
Open the eyes of your mind to the truth of Trump’s deception by conspiracy theories, by grift, by lies molded into confidence schemes, and his administration loaded with incompetents who happen to be loyalist wealthy contributors, and Fox News conspiracy theories artists. There are no clear eyed intelligent and strong of spine personalities taking the seats up in his cabinet.
Good luck following in Trump’s path these next 3.5 years. I think he may well hit the
his ability wall come January 2027 and a new Congress is seated and the republicans no longer have majority advantage in either chamber. Midterms are often unkind to the sitting president and his party. I can only wait and see. Perhaps this bill of Trump’s will see its demise on Trump’s final year in office, the White House Washington, DC, and the halls of Congress. If he is not done like toast for breakfast before then. No way he will survive another election season at the polls. At This age 83, Trump will be a shadow of what Biden is now.
