President Trump on Thursday announced the date and time for his upcoming meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

“The highly anticipated meeting between King Jon-un and myself will take place in Singapore on June 12th,” tweeted Trump. “We will both try to make it a very special moment for World Peace!”

Trump’s announcement came hours after Secretary of State Mike Pompeo returned home from Pyongyang accompanied by three Korean-Americans who had been imprisoned there for over a year.

“This is a special night for these three really great people,” said Trump. “The true honor is going to be if we have a victory in getting rid of nuclear weapons. ;

The Administration seems to have high hopes for Trump’s meeting with Kim, which follows months of intense pressure ;and economic sanctions.

“I think we have a very good chance of doing something very meaningful,” said Trump. “My proudest achievement will be – this is part of it – when we denuclearize that entire peninsula.” ;

On Thursday, Vice President Mike Pence suggested Kim could change the future of North Korea if he acts differently than his father and grandfather. We are already “seeing hopeful signs from Kim Jong-un that he is prepared to embrace complete denuclearization – that’s his words,” said Pence. ;

Kim in April met with South Korean President Moon Jae-in, and the two leaders signed a commitment to put a formal end to the Korean War. ;

In March, Kim said he would be willing to start talks with Trump and offered to suspend nuclear and missile tests. That meeting, which now has a definitive date, will be the first ever face-to-face meeting between an active US president and a leader of communist North Korea.

While the ;White House says the goal of the talks is the “irreversible” denuclearization of North Korea, Kim has described the meeting as “an excellent first step toward promotion of the positive developments on the Korean Peninsula and [the] building of a good future.”

Trump has made it clear that he intends to discuss denuclearization, and that he will “walk away” if the talks are not productive.

Editor’s note: All signs are that this will turn out well, its an exceptional accomplishment if it works.
