Trump Urges the Senate to Pass 20-Week Abortion Ban

President Donald Trump was the first president to speak at the 45th March of Life, a pro-life event that took place on Friday.

During his speech, made via live satellite video, he made several statements in support of the sanctity of life.

Specifically, he wants the Senate to vote and pass a bill that would ban abortions after 20 weeks.

A similar bill was already passed in the House last year but has yet to be voted on in the Senate, where there is a slim Republican majority.

The Trump administration has implemented several pro-life policies that also protect individual’s religious freedom.

Last November, the Trump administration rolled back the Obama-era policy requiring that all health-care insurance policies cover birth control at no cost for women. Instead, a company or nonprofit group could choose a program that doesn’t offer contraception coverage if it violates their religious and moral objections.

Earlier this week, the Trump administration has announced a newly created conscience and religious freedom division within the Health and Human Services Department (HHS.) This organization will help to protect healthcare workers who don’t want to be forced to take part in procedures, like abortions or treating transgender patients because it goes against their religious beliefs.

This is just the beginning too.

Trump, who Vice President Mike Pence introduced as the “most pro-life president in American history,” vowed to continue to protect the sanctity of life.

“Under my administration, we will always defend the very first right in the Declaration of Independence and that is the right to life,” said Trump. “We are protecting the sanctity of life and the family as the foundation of our society.”

Thousands gathered in Washington for the March for Life event, which was themed “Love Saves Lives” this year.

In his introduction speech, Pence mentioned that recent scientific evidence is helping the pro-life movement.

“Life is winning through the steady advance of science that illuminates when life begins, more and more, every day,” said Pence.

Evidently, this has caused more Americans to support pro-life policies.

“An annual poll released Wednesday by The Knights of Columbus and Marist on Americans’ abortion views found that 63 percent of Americans now strongly support a ban on abortion after 20 weeks of pregnancy, up from 59 percent just a year ago. The number of Democrats who support the same ban has increased to 56 percent from 49 percent in January 2017. Also noteworthy is that 61 percent of Democrats want significant restrictions on abortion,” writes Fox News. “The poll also found that 62 percent of Americans said they believe life begins within the first three months of a woman’s pregnancy. Among those who believe life begins at conception, 46 percent said they believe so because it is “a biological and scientific fact,” versus 45 percent who said they believe it based on “a philosophical or religious belief.”

On Friday, the White House released a fact sheet titled “President Donald J. Trump is Standing Up for the Sanctity of Life.”

Some of the facts include—

The Trump administration has stop funding organizations promoting abortions.

“President Trump reinstated and expanded the Mexico City Policy, which protects $9 billion in foreign aid from being used to fund the global abortion industry,” writes the White House. The president also “signed H.J. Res. 43 into law, overturning a midnight regulation by the Obama Administration, which prohibited States from defunding certain abortion facilities in their federally-funded family planning programs.”

The administration has more pro-life policies in the works. The Department of Health and Human Services announced “a proposal to revise its conscience regulations to protect President Trump’s promise to enforce Federal conscience and religious freedom protections.”

“This president has been a tireless defender of life and conscience in America,” said Pence. “With your continued dedication and compassion, with pro-life majorities in the House, with President Trump in the White House, and with God’s help, we will restore the sanctity of life to the center of American law.”

Author’s note: The majority of Americans want this abortion law and more restrictions on abortion. Finally, we have a president implementing pro-life policies and is going to protect religious freedom. As long as federal funding is being used for abortions, then it should also be subjected to federal rules.

Editor’s note: Almost half of Americans believe that abortion is the slaughter of innocent lives. Pushing the abortion issue to the right is the right thing to do. It would be even better if we could arrange that no federal funding be used for abortions. That way no American with a conscience would feel guilty about how tax dollars are spent.
