Trump Gives up on Citizenship Question

Trump Gives up on Citizenship Question

President Trump on Thursday announced he would abandon efforts to add the question “Is this person a citizen of the United States?” to the 2020 census, noting that continuing litigation over the matter would prevent officials from completing census forms on time.

“We’re not going to jeopardize our ability to carry out the census,” said AG William Barr. “So as a practical matter, the Supreme Court’s decision closed all paths.”

Hours before the announcement, Trump had threatened to use executive action to add the citizenship question to the census. Instead, he plans to issue an executive order forcing all federal agencies to give citizenship data to the Commerce Department. This new method of gathering data will be “far more accurate,” said Trump.

Like all of Trump’s proposals related to illegal immigration, the citizenship question had already been blocked by liberal courts. In June, the Supreme Court blocked the question based on Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross’s failure to provide a “genuine” explanation for why they needed it in the first place.

Critics warned the question could have resulted in a lower response rate among noncitizens, thus producing inaccurate data. From a Democratic perspective, this would give Republicans an unfair advantage because most illegals vote Democrat.

The Trump Administration claimed the citizenship question would help determine how many illegals are living in the country. Initially, the Administration said the question would help protect minorities’ voting rights under the Voting Rights Act.

What’s really funny is that nobody seemed to notice when President Obama removed the citizenship question from the census. The question had appeared on the long-term survey until 2000 and on the short-form survey until 1950.

It was only an issue when Trump wanted to add it back on.

The reason all of this matters is because the census is used to determine how many seats each state gets in the House of Representatives and affects how federal funds are distributed.

Next week, House Democrats will vote to hold Ross and Barr in contempt of Congress for ignoring subpoenas related to the citizenship question.

“I’m proud to be a citizen, you’re proud to be a citizen,” said Trump. “The only people that are not proud to be citizens are the ones who are fighting us all the way about the world ‘citizen.’”

” Critics warned the question could have resulted in a lower response rate among noncitizens, thus producing inaccurate data. From a Democratic perspective, this would give Republicans an unfair advantage because most illegals vote Democrat. ”
So the problem is the Democrats get less funding , less seats in the house, and less votes all because the census will only count citizens. So we can’t ask if you are a citizen on the census because illegals vote democrat.

Un-F’n believable ! The more illegals that come across our southern boarder the more benefits the Democrats get. Doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out why the Democrats fight building the wall. Illegals vote illegally for Democrats and citizens get to pay the heavy price for having them here to put Democrats in power. Thanks for nothing to those citizens who vote for the corrupt Democrats who are screwing you for protecting their mass amount of illegal votes. Makes you a ignorant fool in my book.

Well said Keith. I’ve been telling people the same thing and the liberals, “progressives,” and leftists look at me like I’m a moron. Those poor souls are so stupid and/or uninformed, I almost feel sorry for them. But I don’t. Everyday they make a conscience decision to believe the garbage the Democratic party puts out. Shame on them.

    How do illegals vote lol

I hope history is not trying to repeat itself. Remember how the Southern states attempted to take over the house by counting slaves as 3/5 th. of a human? Do the democrats see themselves as slave traders, and the illegal vote as slaves like in the 1800’s? Are they trying to get enough representatives to take over the house, and the country? I hope not! Remember, “We who do not remember the past are condemned to “

Why did Americans not complain over Obama’s census questions . This question is legal and necessary to determine how many people are breaking our laws .
But The questions on the census under Obama Were as follows ! And there were really a lot more personal questions on that census . Even wanting to know if you took the government funded vitamin Centrim Silver !
How many steps to your broom and where is it located in your home
What time do you leave for work
    What time do you return
    Do you have any guns
If so where do you keep them
Sounds like they were wanting to know exactly how andxwhen they could attack legal citizens!!

WJ, I guess you’d have to ask the Dems, they’re the ones letting them vote. Which is why no one should vote for a democrat! They are letting foreign countries control our Congress!!!

“this (the citizenship question) would give Republicans the advantage because most illegals vote (even though they are not supposed to be voting) democratic.”
This is the argument for not including the question? How insane are the Democrats?
The problem is that citizens are being discredited because someone areas that illegals congregate get more representation than areas where US citizens live making laws that favor foreigners over Americans!!!

Obama didn’t remove the question from the census, it’s been off for 6 decades. But Republicans, just like Democrats, are too lazy to actually research or fact check anything. Neither party wants progress or change in anyway, they want to keep the status quo, they want the far left and right minorities to keep spouting off their rhetoric while the majority of the country looks on in disbelief of the incompetence and ignorance coming from both sides. The way it’s designed now both sides get to keep power and make billions off of tax payers. As long as uneducated voters keep electing Republicans and Democrats we, the people, will continue to suffer.
