The Role of Literature and Media in Transgender Violence
America is seeing a pattern of hate-driven violence committed by transgender, or gender-confused, individuals with a number of mass shootings by members of this demographic over the past few years. Last month’s shooting by a gender-confused person that killed two children and injured over a dozen others at a Catholic school in Minneapolis (MN) sparked the debate over the rising threat of transgender terror in the country.
Since the left champions the transgender activism, and not within healthy bounds, leftist media has been actively denying and trying to dismiss the question of the threat to public safety by members of the trans/gender-confused community. Leftist sources like Newsweek have resorted to the statistical playbook to claim such incidents are rare and hence not worthy of such a debate. In these attempts, the leftists have also played the vocabulary trick by putting the “non-binary” label on some of the shooters, excluding them from the transgender community.
Nevertheless, conservatives can clearly see the pattern and associated rising threat of violence committed by the gender-confused people – including trans, non-binary, queer, and whatever other gender identities. Just last week, the public execution of popular conservative commentator Charlie Kirk in Utah also pointed to some level of involvement by leftist gender-confused ideology in the crime that sent shockwaves through the conservative part of the nation. The prime suspect in the killing, Tyler Robinson, is now known to have a romantic relationship with a transgender partner. National Catholic Register noted (September 16) that Kirk was shot dead while answering a question about transgenderism and gun violence.
Combined with Kirk’s firm conservative and Christian worldview that went against transgenderism, these observations have led people on the right to see the apparent connection between gender dysphoria and violence toward those who oppose it. Attorney and podcaster Eric Matheny went on to say that Charlie Kirk’s murder shows an entire trans terror network behind it.
So is this gender-confused violence against normal people random or is there some fuel feeding this fire? Michael Weingrad, a professor and author, has identified that fuel, namely the brainwashing of young minds with literature glorifying trans violence and its promotion by like-minded media.
In his article “Murders Rise As Publishing Houses Sell Violent LGBT Fantasies To Kids,” published in The Federalist (September 12), Weingrad named a number of novels published in recent years with transgender protagonists or heroes who rise against the people that have oppressed them, namely those who refuse to accept their transitioning. In plain words, conservatives believing in only two genders and seeing attempted sex change as mental illness are depicted as villains in these stories.
Weingrad observes that such works include those that are meant for young adult readers and frequently include details of unnatural sex in a manner as to normalize it. At the same time, these books have been promoted by leftist publications like the New York Time (NYT) and others that shower praise on them and give them top ratings. This comes despite the fact that their content includes violent fantasies of gender-confused characters that unleash their powers against their evil oppressors, aka normal people in a conservative worldview.
Questioning the reckless promotion of such hate-filled literature of rebellion and violence by gender-confused young people, Weingrad wrote:
Why are they celebrating this insanity? Perhaps it is a version of what Tom Wolfe described half a century ago as “Radical Chic,” the guilty western liberal’s decadent infatuation with revolutionary savagery. But this latest version is even more depraved. In an age of social media, Weingrad’s concern equally applies, if not more, to the digital platforms that indoctrinate and steer the mentally unwell youth toward violence against their perceived political enemies. Charlie Kirk was reaching out to young people who had questions about such issues as sex and gender. He was educating the leftist youth and by such means helping them recover from the sick indoctrination of the left. Krik’s work thus remains his legacy for fellow conservatives to reclaim the youth of the nation from this rising threat to the nation.
