The nation is reopening … and Democrats are crazed

In a previous commentary, I posed the rhetorical question as to whether Democrats were not only hoping that both the health and the economic crisis to continue – even worsening – but were encouraging it.  Now as the nation begins to take major steps in getting back to some semblance of normal, we seem to have the answer.

For political reasons alone, Democrat strategy is to worsen both the reality and the impression of the crisis.  They seem to believe that their only path to victory in November is on the back of human misery.  In his call on Democrats to wreak maximum political advantage from any disaster, former Chicago Mayor and former Obama Chief-of-Staff Rahm Emmanuel famously called on Democrats to “never let a crisis go to waste.”  That strategy is in full force today – and as usual, Democrats have the benefit of a news industry to uncritically echo the Party’s political mendacious narratives and partisan propaganda.

In the depth of the Great Depression, President Roosevelt cautioned the people that they had “nothing to fear but fear itself.”  The modern Democrat leadership operates that the only thing to fear is a lack of fear.  There can be no consideration of good news, optimism or confidence.

Since the facts and the data do not serve Democrat interests, they — along with their media allies – peddle fear of the future.  Oh sure, they talk about following the data, but they do not.  It would appear that America is over the hump in terms of the virus, but they keep reporting that the worst is yet to come.  They promote fear of a “dark Winter” in 2020-21 – with a pandemic crisis even surpassing the one we are easy out of at the moment.

When President Trump – and even the much-revered Dr. Anthony Fauci – talk optimistically about positive about potential pharmaceutical drugs and medical treatments – including a future vaccine – Democrats and the media promote fear by recruiting low-level politicalized doctors to paint a much darker prospect.  In once case, a clearly anti-Trump doctor painted a doom-and-gloom outlook and predicted that we would not be past the Covid-19 problem for 20 years.  That right!  Not 20 months even, but 20 years.

CNN went all in fearmongering with two so-called medical authorities.  Yes, there were doctors, but not necessarily authorities on anything related to Covid-19.  Dr. Rob Davidson is an emergency room medic in Michigan.  For the most part his specialty is patching up people with broken legs, gunshot wounds and heart attacks.  He is not an epidemiologist or a scientist.

His political leanings, however, are obvious from his attacks on the Trump administration and his political involvement has Executive Director of the Committee to Protect Medicare.  His politics clearly trump his medical knowledge.  He is typical of the kind of doctors the media is using to express the grimmest and most political scenarios.

Another doctor advised all seniors to stay locked down.  Everyone should keep a six-foot separation and one should never go outside their home without wearing a mask because you could get the virus and die.  You could also be hit by a meteor.  The risk of catching the virus outside in open air is EXTREMELY unlikely – and to die from it is still a statistical rarity.

If you should contract Covid-19 you have an 80 percent chance of having a very mild or even non-symptomatic case.  You have at least a 96 percent chance of returning to normal health in a couple of weeks.  If you do not currently have the virus, your chance of getting it and dying from it is less than one-tenth of one percent.

For weeks, the Democrat negativists chastised Georgia Governor Brian Kemp for his plan to “open too soon.”  He was said to be a threat to the health and wellbeing of his citizens.  Since Georgia opened more than three weeks ago, the number of cases and deaths in the Peach State has steadily dropped.

The media has been beating up on Republicans in the state legislature in Wisconsin because the state Supreme Court said the closing ordered by Democrat Governor Tony Evans was declared illegal under the state constitution.  And again, there are predictions of soaring numbers of deaths.  What is not reported is that Wisconsin is 24^th in terms of cases and 453 deaths.  That state should be ready to open.

If you look at the data, there is no truly dark cloud on the horizon, only some brightness.  Look at the map atop this commentary.  This is what the pandemic looks like in the United States today. When they say the numbers are increasing in a state, the media maps fail to show just how limited it is even within such states.  The numbers are going down in almost every state and region – and this is happening as 48 of the 50 states have started reopening – as well they should.

Covid-19 is bad … bad … bad.  Make no mistake about that.  But we cannot allow fear – especially fear intentionally promoted for political advantage – to entice us to surrender our basic freedoms of speech and assembly, to curtail our ability to meet our needs and desires through an open free-market society and hinder our right to pursue our personal goals and ambitions.

None of this is to suggest that we should throw caution to the wind and not take REASONABLE precautions.  Staying home when sick is a good idea.  Maybe that was not done enough in the past, but we can change.  Washing hands has been a good idea since we discovered germs.  A little more of that is good.  Covering a cough or a sneeze is standard protocol.

And yet, Democrats and the media is keeping up their darkest and most fearful narratives because their entre governing philosophy is to create a coalition of people surrendering freedom – becoming dependent on government – specifically an authoritarian progressive government — for a false sense of security.  They are most obviously not going to let this crisis go to waste.

So, there ‘tis.
