Whether Russian despot Vladimir Putin decides to invade Ukraine – either an incursion or and full-scale invasion – is entirely up to him.
When Putin amassed 75,000 troops along Ukraine’s eastern border — President Biden threatened unspecified sanctions. When the number was increased to 100,000 troops — President Biden threatened unspecified sanctions. When heavy equipment and aggressive weapons were moved to the border — — President Biden threatened unspecified sanctions. When Putin placed more troops along the north and south flanks of Ukraine — President Biden threatened unspecified sanctions. When Putin sent troops into Belarus to further reinforce the northern border — President Biden threatened unspecified sanctions. When Putin sent in blood supplies, a common strategic last step before military action — President Biden threatened unspecified sanctions.
From the onset, experts and advisors had told Biden that the sanctions should have been imposed because of Putin’s already aggressive actions. And yet, each time Putin spit in the face of Uncle Sam, our president did NOTHING. Biden’s political impotency is proving to be a security risk to Ukraine AND the United States.
Biden’s only threatened military countermeasure was the threat – again a THREAT – to move 8500 American trumps to the Baltic states that lie on the border between the Ukraine and Russian borders. That ought to scare the hell out of Putin. Of course, it will not. Biden might as well threaten to put a troop of Boy Scouts at the California shore. That is not to be taken as an insult to our men and women in the military, but to illustrate just how much good those troops will do the Ukrainian people – and how much they will deter Putin. There is no threat … zero … nada … to the borders of the Baltic NATO nations at this time.
What Biden has handed to Putin is a guarantee that no American or NATO troops will set foot in Ukraine. There will be no air support. There will not even be a THREAT of military response – the only threat that may have been effective – but now even that is too late.
Biden – on three occasions – has intimated that the American/NATO response could be tempered by an incursion instead of an invasion – a distinction without a difference. The White House and the State Department corrected those statements. However … it is difficult to believe that after three mentions that Biden was not signaling Putin. Even Biden cannot be that non-compos mentis. Hmmmm.
For the months that Putin has been building his invasion army, Biden has only issued repeated threats – none of which have deterred Putin’s actions.
If Putin does invade, it will be too late for sanctions to work. After months of arguably idle threats, Putin will have calculated them into his decision. Once he invades, the threats are no longer a deterrence. In fact, the entire Biden approach will have been a tragic and abysmal failure – with dangerous repercussions to Ukraine and the western world.
The United States – oft claimed to be the most powerful nation in the world with the most powerful military – will AGAIN be shown up as a paper tiger by a tinhorn dictator ruling over a second-tier nation.
It is often said that in times of crisis and need, America finds the right leadership. That old saying is proving to be as meaningless as the bragging about our military power. Sadly, we the people have chosen possibly the worst possible person to lead the nation at this time — the impotent Mr. Biden.
So, there ‘tis.
