If the headline surprises, you –you think it is some fake report – you obviously missed what little coverage the story got.
Of course, the arrest of the would-be assassin was overshadowed by the horrific mass killing of 19 young kids and two teachers in Uvalde, Texas; the results of a series of major primaries; and a war in Ukraine – and even the latter two got minimal coverage.
Regardless, it was an important story. So here are the facts.
The central figure in the plot was Shihab Ahmed Shihab Shihab (perhaps his father stuttered). He is an Iraqi terrorist who was in American on a visitor visa. He was arrested in Ohio and has been charged with “aiding and abetting the attempted murder of a former United States official”
The reason for the jihad was because Bush had destroyed Iraq. The plot to kill Bush was to be carried out by a team of imported terrorists identified as members of Al-Ra’ed (translated as “thunder”). Other members of the team were to be snuck over America’s porous southern border – embedded with the growing caravans of illegal border crossers. (That should put the lie to the Democrats claim that all those millions of illegal border crossers are innocent women and children escaping the dangers of their homelands.)
The plot was uncovered when Shihab had conversations with an FBI informant. He told the informant that “the ‘Al-Ra’ed’ group that was planning to assassinate former President Bush was unrelated to ISIS, but he was hoping that ISIS would approve and collaborate in the assassination.”
According to court filings, Shihab told the informant that he was a “soldier waiting for directions from the leadership in Qatar.”
Shihab had personally cased the Bush Presidential Library and the family residence. He took videos of the gate accessing the home.
In addition to the plan to assassinate Bush, Shihab appears to have been involved in a broader effort to bring Muslim terrorists into America. He made plans with the informant, who provided a border guard uniform and $40,00 in cash to pay for the operation, courtesy of the FBI. I hope Uncle Sam got his money back.
Shihab told the informant that those to be smuggled into the country included his brother and members of Hezbollah.
As much as I could check out the story, I found nothing in the public record or the court documents that gave any indication of what became of the individuals who were to be smuggled into America. Do we know who they are? Are we going to track them down and – as the saying goes – neutralize them? And what about those unidentified folks in Qatar who seem to be giving the orders?
We can only hope that the FBI and the CIA are doing their job in eliminating future threats to Bush or Americans in general. I suppose this gives President Biden another reason not to secure the border is futile.
Kudos to the FBI on this one.
