US Attorney General William Barr has made good on his promise to assign a special prosecutor to investigate Republican’s complaints related to the Trump/Russia probe.

Connecticut Attorney John Durham will ‘investigate the investigators’ to learn more about the origins of the Russia probe and to determine whether the FBI’s intelligence collection methods during Trump’s presidential campaign were “lawful and appropriate.”

John Durham is a longtime prosecutor best known for investigating corruption within the FBI, including the agency’s ties to the mob. In 2008, he was selected to investigate the destruction of CIA videotapes of detainee interrogations. The following year, he was asked to lead the DOJ’s investigation into the CIA’s use of torture.

In 2017, he was nominated by President Trump to replace Deirdre Daly as US Attorney for the state of Connecticut.

This month, he was assigned to Spygate.

Durham’s investigation will focus on the time period directly before the 2016 presidential election – including the FBI’s use of informants and FISA warrants. In addition to AG Barr, Durham will also work with CIA Director Gina Haspel, FBI Director Chris Wray, Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats, and DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz (for months, Horowitz has been working on a separate investigation into alleged FISA abuses by the FBI).

President Trump and others have celebrated Barr’s choice of Durham as special prosecutor.

“John Durham is an outstanding choice for special prosecutor investigating 2016 pre-election activities,” wrote Rep. Mark Meadows (R-NC). “And his selection further demonstrates Bill Barr’s tenacity and determined desire to get to the truth and restore credibility at the top tier of the DOJ and FBI.”

Durham’s appointment follows the conclusion of the Mueller report, which found no evidence of collusion but described 10 examples of ‘potential obstruction of justice’ by President Trump.

Last month, Barr told lawmakers he believed “spying did occur” during Trump’s presidential campaign and promised to conduct an investigation. “I think spying did occur,” he said, “But the question is whether it was…adequately predicated. I’m not suggesting it wasn’t predicated. I need to explore that.”

Editor’s note: For those of us who realized the “Dossier” was fake from the beginning, this is the vengeance we have been hoping for. Will it be covered like the Mueller investigation? I doubt it. But if there are indictments, it might be enough to prevent this from happening to another president.
