Seven Governors Back Trump for Nobel Peace Prize

<p>South Carolina Gov&period; Henry McMaster&comma; along with six other GOP governors have written a letter&nbsp&semi;to the Norwegian Nobel committee in support of President Donald Trump&&num;8217&semi;s nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>The lawmakers believe Trump&&num;8217&semi;s &&num;8220&semi;transformative efforts to bring peace to the Korean peninsula&&num;8221&semi; make him worthy of the coveted honor&period;&nbsp&semi;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>In the letter signed by McMaster&comma; Alabama Gov&period; Kay Ivey&comma; Guam Gov&period; Eddie Baza Calvo&comma; Kansas Gov&period; Jeff Colyer&comma; Mississippi Gov&period; Phil Bryant&comma; Maine Gov&period; Paul LePage and West Virginia Gov&period; Jim Justice&comma; they praised the president on his &ldquo&semi;unprecedented victory for global peace and security&period;&rdquo&semi;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>&ldquo&semi;The President&rsquo&semi;s firm stance against nuclearization&comma; coupled with his willingness to engage one-on-one with Pyongyang&comma; has succeeded in opening new avenues of cooperation&comma; friendship and unity between the two Koreas &ndash&semi; and the rest of the world&comma;&rdquo&semi; writes the governors&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>However&comma; governors aren&&num;8217&semi;t listed as part of the official list to make Nobel nominations according to the Mobel Prize website&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>Earlier this month&comma; Trump was also nominated for the prize for his Korean peace efforts by 18 House Republicans after the fruitful meeting between South Korean President Moon Jae-in and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un where the leaders agreed to work together to denuclearize the Peninsula&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>The National Republican Senatorial Committee then sent an email encouraging supporters to add their name to a list to &&num;8220&semi;Nominate President Trump to Win the Nobel Peace Prize&&num;8221&semi;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>Sen&period; Linsey Graham expressed similar sentiments last month&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>&&num;8220&semi;We&&num;8217&semi;re not there yet&comma; but if this happens&comma; President Trump deserves the Nobel Peace Prize&comma;&&num;8221&semi; said Graham on<em>&nbsp&semi;Fox News<&sol;em>&nbsp&semi;in response to his progress with North Korea&period;&nbsp&semi;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>If Trump is awarded&comma; he will join four other presidents&comma; including Jimmy Carter and Barack Obama&comma; and the other nine Americans who have won the prize&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>&ldquo&semi;After nearly two decades of gridlock and global anxiety surrounding North Korea&rsquo&semi;s nuclear program&comma; we are now&comma; at last&comma; on the precipice of peace&comma;&rdquo&semi; writes the governors&period; &ldquo&semi;There is but one new variable&colon; President Donald J&period; Trump and his successful policy of security through strength&period; There is no one more deserving of the Nobel Peace Prize&period;&rdquo&semi;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p><strong>Author&&num;8217&semi;s note&colon;<&sol;strong> Did Obama deserve the prize&quest;&nbsp&semi;Geir Lundestad&comma; the former secretary of peace said the comittieee regreted the decision&period;&nbsp&semi;&&num;8220&semi;No Nobel Peace Prize ever elicited more attention than the 2009 prize to Barack Obama&comma;&&num;8221&semi; said Lundestad in his book&period;&nbsp&semi;&&num;8220&semi;Even many of Obama&&num;8217&semi;s supporters believed that the prize was a mistake&comma;&&num;8221&semi; he says&period; &&num;8220&semi;In that sense the committee didn&&num;8217&semi;t achieve what it had hoped for&period;&&num;8221&semi; With that in mind&comma; the committee may be hestitant to give it to another U&period;S&period; president this soon&period; Again&comma; thanks Obama&excl;<&sol;p>&NewLine;
