Sen. Cotton Says Sen. Feinstein’s Office to be Investigated Over Leaked Ford Letter

On Sunday, Sen. Tom Cotton said that Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s office will be investigated to see if it leaked a confidential letter from one of Brett Kavanaugh’s accusers.

Christine Blasey Ford wrote a letter earlier this summer to a senior Democratic lawmaker alleging that the Supreme Court nominee Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her over 35 years ago.

Cotton also pointed out that her lawyers offered her incorrect advice and said that Senate Judiciary Committee staffers would not travel to California to interview her about the allegation.

Ford wrote the letter with the accusations initially to her local congresswoman, Rep. Anna Eshoo, D-Calif, where she asked to keep the matter confidential.

“Ms. Ford was sympathetic and she was sincere. She’s been victimized by the Democrats in this process,” said Cotton on CBS’s Face the Nation. “They betrayed her own request for confidentiality, they leaked this to the media at the last minute because they are on a search and destroy mission for Brett Kavanaugh.”

He condemned Democrats for using her and not keeping her allegation private like she requested in the letter and also said this could detour other women in the future from coming forward.

“Any impact that this entire episode has had, on women’s willingness to come forward and report sexual assault, which I encourage them all to do immediately after it happens, is caused by the Democrats, is caused by Dianne Feinstein and Chuck Schumer not respecting her requests for confidentiality,” said Cotton.

Cotton expressed similar sentiments via Twitter.

“The decision to hide the letter for two months is even more disgraceful than it first appeared. @SenFeinstein could’ve have asked for FBI investigation she professes to want now IN JULY. Utter failure of leadership,” tweeted Cotton.

But somehow Ford’s letter was leaked to the press and Feinstein has denied that her office was responsible.

Author’s note: The Democrats have turned these proceedings into a circus. Ford requested that this stay confidential, but the Democrats knew this could turn into a media frenzy and make it more difficult for Kavanaugh to get confirmed. If the FBI proves that Feinstein revealed Ford’s identity without her permission, this could backfire on Democratic lawmakers. Not to mention, Ford’s lawyers appeared to have given her false information about how the Senate Judiciary Committee doesn’t travel to investigate accusations. Perhaps her lawyers will be disbarred.
