Russia has been forced to the sidelines in terms of direct military aid or even involvement in support of if ally Iran. The Moscow military machine is overstretched in Ukraine. However, there have been several credible reports that Russia is using its Intelligence services to pinpoint American bases and ships for Iran. The Madman of Moscow Vladimir Putin says he is doing no such thing. That puts the odds at 99 percent that the Rusike’s are doing exactly that.

That is participation in the war – and in a way that puts the lives of American service personnel at risk. That is an Act of War against the United States.

While Putin is actively working against American interests, Ukraine is providing support to the U.S. military. Despite the fact that they are in need of support in the defense of the country, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has offered America assistance with the drone portion of the war. Even while fighting village to village, Ukraine has developed the world’s most impressive military drones and drone defenses. It is that technology that Zelenskyy is providing to the United States.

Despite those two facts, we have yet to see a shift in President Trump’s policy that leans iin favor of Putin. The Trump peace plan – that Putin has scoffed at – involves yielding Ukrainian land to Russia and easing up on sanctions – and no accountability for the war Putin started. No reparations for the loss of life and damage to property.

I have written in the past about my strong disagreement with Trump’s Russo-centric policies. They are the opposite of his stated goals in other regions and with other wars –in which he seems to have America’s interests foremost. The policies are also inconsistent with Trump’s pugnacious personality. I can think of no one who has shown such contempt and disregard for Trump’s wishes and demands and who has not been subjected to the harshest rebukes and actions.

One would think that there is some read line which Putin cannot cross without a significant response. The war of aggression against an allied democracy should have been the red line. But no. Perhaps all the bad faith negotiations and broken promises? But no.

And now we have credible information that Putin is involved in the war with Iran against the United States. This time he is directly confronting American interests, assets and personnel. And still no response — other than acquiescence.

Democrats have used Trump’s policies in Ukraine to accuse him of disloyalty and allegiance to Putin. They have suggested that Putin has “something” on Trump. And in the absence of a better explanation, it takes hold – although I personally do not believe that is the case. If it were that simple, Trump could not have been as tough on Putin as he has been in the past. He has imposed strong sanctions, undermined Putin’s efforts in the Middle East (Syria as the prime example), cut Russia off from Venezuela and even attacked militarily against Russia.

So, what is so special about Putin and the war in Ukraine? I have no idea. But I can only hope that perhaps this time, Putin has crossed a red line that even Trump cannot ignore.

So, there ‘tis.
