I’ve written several articles recently about Republicans’ demands for a special prosecutor to investigate the origins of the Russia investigation and the federal government’s alleged FISA abuses during Donald Trump’s presidential campaign.
“The president was at lunch today and he voiced his support for investigating the people who concocted this hoax,” said Senator Rand Paul (R-KY). “I think we should get to the bottom of this and he believes we should get to the bottom of this because this should never happen to another president.”
As announced last week, Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation did not find evidence of collusion. The investigation cost over $25 million and spanned nearly 2 years.
“[Trump] feels that it’s damaging to the country, damaging to the ability to lead the country, that we basically – somebody within the Obama Administration, within the DOJ and the FBI, basically concocted an investigation, trumped it up to be something that it wasn’t, and then we’ve gone through two years of the country being stalled because of this fake investigation.”
Mueller’s findings validate claims that Democrats and the liberal media pushed the Russia conspiracy theory without evidence – so much so that 44% of Americans still believe that Trump colluded with Russia.
As noted in Rolling Stone, “To the ordinary viewer it will look a hell of a lot like the MSNBC’s of the world humped a fake story for two consecutive years in the hopes of overturning election results ahead of time. Trump couldn’t have asked for a juicer campaign issue, and an easier way to argue that ‘elites’ don’t respect the Democratic choices of flyover voters. It’s hard to imagine what could look worse.”
What could look worse is the answers we might find in investigating “Spygate” – the theory that members of the Obama Administration spied on Trump’s presidential campaign in an effort to help Hillary Clinton win the 2016 presidential election.
The Spygate theory is just as fantastic as the Russia conspiracy theory, but much more likely to be true. Also deserving of an investigation is the Hillary Clinton email probe, in which FBI and DOJ officials displayed obvious political bias; in fact two FBI agents involved in the email probe and the Russia investigation were fired after exhibiting anti-Trump bias.
“What needs to happen is we need to have full transparency in this matter,” said Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA), who is expected to make criminal referrals as part of his investigation into alleged political bias within the FBI and DOJ. “We need to know all the informants and everybody they were running into the Trump campaign because what happened here is wrong.”
“The FBI, the Department of Justice should not be able to use counterintelligence capabilities that are used to target terrorists and other bad guys around the globe against political parties. Republicans and Democrats should agree political opposition research from one candidate should not be used to let the nation’s top spy capabilities be used against political parties,” said Nunes, referring to the notorious anti-Trump dossier authored by Christopher Steele.
The dossier, paid for by the DNC and the Hillary Clinton campaign, contains allegations of misconduct and conspiracy between Trump and Russia and claims Russia shared negative information about Clinton in an attempt to hinder her presidential campaign.
The uncorroborated dossier was published by Buzzfeed in January 2017 and used as a source by the FBI when it obtained a warrant to spy on Trump adviser Carter Page. Republicans claim the dossier was used to launch the Russia investigation.
Moving forward, Republicans deserve to know whether members of federal agencies cooperated with the DNC or the Clinton campaign in an effort to sabotage Donald Trump’s presidential campaign and whether the FBI broke the law when it obtained a warrant on Page.
As confirmed last week, lawmaker Lindsey Graham plans to hold hearings on the FBI’s conduct as related to suspected FISA abuses. Above all, Graham seeks to determine whether the end result of the Clinton email investigation was linked to hopes that she would win the election and whether the Russia investigation was part of a scheme to force Trump out of office in case he won.
Spygate Cast of Characters
Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Chairman of Senate Judiciary Committee: Trump ally who recently vowed to investigate alleged FISA abuses by FBI; has been calling for an investigation since 2017. He is the good guy in this scenario.
Adam Schiff (D-CA), Chairman of House Intelligence Committee: Democrat who played a key role in promoting the Russia conspiracy theory in the media; continues to insist collusion occurred despite findings from multiple investigations; has been accused of promoting a false narrative and asked to resign.
James Comey: Former FBI Director who led the Hillary Clinton email probe and determined no criminal wrongdoing; pushed Russia conspiracy theory; fired by President Trump in May 2017. Also alleged to have perverted his investigation of Hillary’s unsecure email server, under political pressure.
Andrew McCabe: Former (interim) FBI Deputy Director who pushed Russia conspiracy theory; claims he is the one who opened the counterintelligence probe into Russia and Trump; sacked by FBI for “lack of candor.” He is accused of politically biased actions in the execution of his law enforcement duties.
Robert Mueller: Former FBI Director who was called in as special counsel to investigate Democrats’ claims that Trump colluded with Moscow; as revealed this month, his investigation revealed no collision and did not find sufficient evidence to charge Trump with obstruction of justice.
Peter Strzok: Former FBI agent who led Russia probe when it was launched; fired for exhibiting anti-Trump bias and alleged to be executing law enforcement actions that were politically motivated, not legally justified.
Lisa Page: Former FBI lawyer who conspired with Peter Strzok, her lover, to keep Trump out of office; fired for exhibiting anti-Trump bias.
Carter Page: Petroleum industry consultant who worked briefly as a foreign policy adviser to Trump; was spied on by the FBI over suspicions that he was working with the Russian government; was never accused of wrongdoing.
Christopher Steele: Former MI6 agent who was hired by Fusion GPS to compile negative information about Donald Trump; Fusion GPS received funding from the Clinton campaign and the DNC. This so-called intelligence officer wrote such a poor report that the Punching Bag staff recognized it immediately.
James Clapper: Former Director of National Intelligence who pushed Russia conspiracy theory; lied to lawmakers about collecting phone data. Over and over and over again, even though he lacked any specific evidence.
Susan Rice: Former NSA Adviser who pushed Russia conspiracy theory.
John Brennan: Former CIA Director who pushed Russia conspiracy theory and spied on the Senate; accused Trump of treason. Over and over and over again, even though he lacked any specific evidence.
Loretta Lynch: Met with Bill Clinton on an airport tarmac and is alleged to have made a deal to get Hillary off the hook. A different investigation, but if Comey is corrupt enough to have illegitimately pushed the Russia investigation, he should be investigated for collusion in the Hillary scandal(s).
Hillary Clinton: Former candidate for President, whose campaign paid for the Steele dossier and probably orchestrated the FBI’s investigation. This was likely a ploy to distract the media from her catastrophic email server scandal. If this investigation continues its logical choice, all roads lead to Hillary.
Barrack Hussein Obama: President during this rise of the Russia Collusion investigation. Using Federal Government resources to attack a political opponent (which he is known to have done with the IRS, the DOJ, and other places) is the lowest of the low. Did he know that the FBI was using a fake report to instigate an investigation of Donald Trump? What did he know, and when did he know it?
