I’m watching the media coverage of the attack on Paul Pelosi, who was assaulted by a man the other day in his house.
And to my surprise (not!) this is becoming a political football. Commentators are able to extract “condemn the violence” statements from every political figure without exception. To not do so would be to have an issue in the next election for “sanctioning violence.”
And here is the rub. We are being advised by no less than Vice President Kamala Harris to curb our talk about serious political issues, like election fraud, so that we don’t trigger the mentally imbalanced to do such radical things.
What?
By all media accounts so far, the attacker was mentally imbalanced. Crazy. Off his rocker. A lone wolf nutcase. The media is almost wrong, so stay tuned, but this is all we have to go on.
Are we supposed to tone down our speech, the most basic of freedoms so that we won’t trigger a crazy person? Are we supposed to ignore the issues that make us angry as hell to avoid angering people who are mentally sick and who might “freak out”?
You probably have guessed that I don’t really give a crap about Paul Pelosi. I think he and Nancy are criminals who engaged in insider stock trading, he appears to be a drunk (can’t really blame him for that), and worst of all he has stood by while Nancy has tried to destroy America.
But follow me here.
Yes, Paul Pelosi was a victim, it made the news. But the streets of San Francisco (where Nancy is a rep) are covered with homeless people, most of whom have mental problems. They attack people, they defecate on the street, they interfere with people’s businesses and livelihoods and the local government does nothing. In fact, local and state government have enacted policies that encourage it. Some of those victims have suffered worse than Paul Pelosi, they are just not famous enough to become political footballs like him.
And what is more serious? One man who is assaulted? Or the possibility that our democracy was hijacked through election fraud? Or the nationwide assaults on Christianity? Or rampant crime? Or the pro-life vs pro-choice debate? Or drug addiction? Or our border crisis?
For politicians to suggest that we should muzzle ourselves for their benefit is some of the most twisted, cynical and partisan political speech I’ve heard in some time.
No, I will NOT curb my speech so as not to inflame passion. Kamala Harris can go suck an egg.
I will be as inflammatory as I need to be, even if it pushes some crazy bast$%#ds over the edge.
