Pink Panther politics

Watching the daily outpouring of political commentary emanating from the elitist east coast (so-called) news media, I suddenly had a flashback to that cult movie classic, “The Pink Panther.”

It is an uproariously funny cult classic comedy starring Peter Sellers as the bumbling Inspector Clouseau of the French Sûreté nationale who seems to create chaos wherever he goes. Even as he would fall downstairs or bump his head on a door, Clouseau would never admit his clumsiness was an accident, but rather insist he planned each pratfall for some imperceptible strategic reason. Against all odds, however, Clouseau would get the better for the bad guys and solve the case to great acclaim from everyone … except his boss.

Cousteau’s unorthodox style and his ability to win recognition for his crime-solving ability not only frustrated the criminals, but drove his boss, Commissioner Dreyfus, stark raving mad – literally. Dreyfus hated Clouseau so much that he made maniacal attempts to kill off the inspector – which would all backfire. His obsessive hatred for Clouseau eventually landed Dreyfus in a mental hospital blabbering incoherently.

Watching the recent programs on CNN and MSNBC — with their paid panels of parroting pundits – I began to see President Trump as Inspector Clouseau. The President is certainly unorthodox and can appear to be haphazard. He regularly stirs the pot of controversy and chaos. But more often than not, he achieves his goals – such as getting our NATO allies to meet their financial obligations, getting a couple of Middle East nations to make peace with Israel and producing Covid-19 vaccines in record time.

The radical left, the Democratic Party and the New York City media cabal are collectively Commissioner Dreyfus – soaring to greater heights of hysterical lunacy as every attempt to take down Trump fails.

The Dreyfus-like madness began when Trump – underfunded and despised by the left – stumbled into the Oval Office. Like the movie character, the collective left succumbed to obsessive hatred – and the madness that follows.

Dreyfus Syndrome spread like a political pandemic thanks to that super-spreader event known as the #Anti-Trump Resistance Movement. Folks like California Congresswoman Maxine Waters started making deranged calls for Trump to be impeached BEFORE he was even inaugurated. The Dreyfus Syndrome hit the New York and Washington media harder than Covid-19. For four years, the infected portions of the Fourth Estate obsessed with spreading the malady throughout the nation.

Among those who exhibited the most serious symptoms and best personified Dreyfus Syndrome are folks like House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, House Intel Chairman Adam Schiff and the unhinged anchors of MSNBC, Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski. Actually, you could put the entire MSNBC line-up on the list if those needing ethical and rational intensive care.

You will recall that Schiff promoted a three-year fantasy that Trump had conspired with Russia. He even proved to be delusional when he said he actually saw the evidence in secret sessions. When that proved to be nothing more than figments of Schiff’s hate-driven imagination – and failed to kill off the Trump presidency — Pelosi picked up the gauntlet to drag the Congress – and the nation – through a still-born impeachment fiasco. The House Speaker actually considered a second impeachment effort to stop Trump from performing his constitutional right to nominate Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court.

More recently – in a fit of unhinged desperation – Pelosi has raised the prospect of using the Twenty-Fifth Amendment to remove Trump from active duty as President of the United States less than a month before the election. Even in her delirious state-of-mind, she must know that the House has no power to invoke the Amendment. That is up to the Vice President and a majority of the Cabinet – and if she thinks that is going to happen, she is nuttier than we knew.

She has also proposed the establishment of a House “commission” to ascertain the ability of the President to serve even though there is no authority by which such commission could make or enforce such an opinion. It would make the Salem witch trials look like outstanding examples of jurisprudence.

Dreyfus Syndrome apparently has Scarborough and his bed-pal – figuratively and literally – Mika Brzezinski suffering from visions of grandeur. We can recall Brzezinski rebutting the opinion of a Republican politician by saying: “It is not their job to tell people what to think. That is our job.”

In responding to Vice President Pence’s claim that he trusted we the people to make sound decisions for ourselves, Scarborough loudly declared that we are not capable of doing so. It would appear the Dreyfus Syndrome exacerbates a left-wing pre-existing condition – authoritarianism.

As in the movie – and in Washington – obsessive hatred is a mind-crippling condition. And it has infected our body politic unlike anytime since … since … anytime, period.

So, there ‘tis.
