Pelosi: ‘We’re already working on CARES 2’
House Democrats are already working on a fourth stimulus package to help Americans deal with the economic effects of the coronavirus pandemic.
The package, which House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says will top $1 trillion, seeks to build on the $2.2 trillion CARES Act signed on March 28th.
The follow-up legislation seeks to provide more money for medical equipment, expand unemployment benefits from four months to six months, provide another round of cash payments to Americans, and get food stamps to families whose children rely on school lunches.
Pelosi also wants to provide more funds to assist governments and small businesses, including farmers.
“We’ve done a great deal, and we just have to get that out,” said Pelosi. “But as it goes out, we know already that the acceleration of the pace of the virus, and this assault – not only on the lives but the livelihood of the American people – that we must do more. So we’re preparing for CARES 2 already.”
Pelosi wants to pass CARES 2 this month, although the House is not scheduled to be back in session until April 20th at the earliest.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and other GOP lawmakers have acknowledged the necessity of another package, but would like to see CARES take effect before moving forward.
“She needs to stand down on the notion that we’re going to go along with taking advantage of the crisis to do things that are unrelated to the crisis,” said McConnell, referring to Democrats’ efforts to insert unrelated provisions into the CARES Act.
Pelosi has also taken the liberty of forming a bipartisan House committee to oversee the federal response to the pandemic and to ensure that taxpayer dollars are spent wisely. The panel, led by Rep. Jim Clyburn (D-SC), “will root out waste, fraud, and abuse,” said Pelosi. “It will protect against price-gouging, profiteering, and political favoritism.”
Trump and other Republicans see the committee as unnecessary. “I want to remind everyone here in our nation’s capital, especially in Congress, that this is not the time for politics, endless partisan investigations,” said Trump. “Here we go again. They’ve already done extraordinary damage to our country in recent years.”

I agree with McConnell that Pelosi’s strategy is premature. We should wait until CARES takes effect and determine its strengths before moving forward with another package.
Researchers are working on several promising treatments, and it is possible that not as many people will die from COVID-19 as we expected. It seems to me that Pelosi is trying to push her own agenda, perhaps to boost the Democratic vote or to attack Trump in November.
Editor’s Note: In the meantime, Democrats are playing politics with the extra $250 Billion for small businesses.
Cannot help but believe Pelosi’s actions are motivated more by personal vindictiveness than political maneuvering. I believe she’s still steaming from embarrassment when Trump suspended the government plane flight to Europe during the government shutdown. She and her foolish Dems sat on the tarmac waiting for takeoff that never happened! I am sure that scene is burned in her brain. She’ll spend the rest of her career trying to get even with Trump regardless the damage she does to the American people.

That, and the fact POTUS Trump called her a “third rate politician”, before she stomped out of the White House, when she tried to “run” him, probably stick in her chicken neck like craw at the what should have been her swan song retirement. Her legacy is already tarnished with a failed impeachment, her inability to work across the isle, trying strong arming both sides, her failed programs, not to mention her alcoholic intake and nastiness to others that must serve her and of course the waste of tax payer money. In addition, her West Coast District is a complete disaster with everything from government sponsored needles, poop in the streets, homeless camping on both public and private property, and supporting illegal aliens over Americans. How she has managed to say in office all these years shows how incompetence thrives in Washington DC and buying votes in her district keeps career politicians, like her, in office.
Pelosi is on her 900th Botox Job and the lifetime max is 903, so she may be reaching end of shelf life and will retire in November, when Trump wins his 2nd term.

We’ve had enough stimulus debt, at least at this time. Any more spending at this time will be unnecessary and will delay the recovery, just as the further stimulus spending by Obama and the Democrats stalled the recovery from the 2008 recession, after George W. Bush and the Republicans had already done all that was needed. The Democrats just had to buy more votes after Obama was elected (and it worked to get Obama a second horrendous term).
Pelosi’s stimulus is designed to stimulate her retirement and throw America under the bus with debt it will never be able to pay back. Where does all this money come from….the money tree?

The Democrats’ control of taxpayer dollars is very worrying. How many dollars will remain in the treasury after their “control”. and how many houses for top democrats will be built, as a result of this control?
Treasury? There is no “treasury.” We just print money–nothing behind it.
