New Florida Law Fights Big Tech

Ron DeSantis

Yesterday, I wrote an article on Facebook banning a business in Florida from advertising a new line of products in support of first responders and law enforcement officers. In my opinion, this sort of censorship should never happen within our nation to any citizen with any opinion or desire to support anything they choose to. No matter if it is online or offline.

Apparently, and thankfully, I am not the only American who carries this opinion.

As I wrote in the article, I had missed some new news that Florida Governor Ron Desantis had also just signed on a new law. It protects private citizens and public officials both from big tech suppression. So now, with the new law, the people have the power to stand up to Big Tech. It gives them the right to sue any organization in media or technology that attempts to stop free speech.

As of yesterday, from a report from Newsmax, any person in Florida has the ability to sue Big Tech companies for up to $100,000 in damages for any “deplatforming.”

The new bill is a strong defense against organizations’ power to silence viewpoints that do not fit the modern media narrative imposed over the public.

In a statement Monday night, Desantis said, “This session, we took action to ensure that ‘We the People’ … are guaranteed protection against the Silicon Valley elites… Many in our state have experienced censorship and other tyrannical behavior firsthand in Cuba and Venezuela. If Big Tech censors enforce rules inconsistently, to discriminate in favor of the dominant Silicon Valley ideology, they will now be held accountable.”

Ron Desantis said in a tweet, “Today, we level the playing field between celebrity and citizen on social media.”

In an article from the CBN (Christian Broadcast News), Desantis also says, “Some of these massive companies… are exerting a power over our population that really has no precedent in American history.”

The new bill, Florida’s Senate Bill 7072, is now law. It puts the power back into the hands of everyday Americans to stand up to censorship.

Now the question remains: who will be the first to stand up for their own rights against Big Tech? Loaded Cannon Distillery seems like the perfect candidate to test out the new Florida law against Big Tech.

Since Facebook banned Florida’s own local business Loaded Cannon Distillery from advertising their new product line of spirits that also planned on giving a percentage of the profits to first responders and law enforcement for the Back the Blue movement, it seems to be the opportune case to use the new law and put the legislation into motion as soon as possible. With the new law, Loaded Cannon Distillery should be able to sue Facebook for damages.

Also, if they won the case, they could even donate more money to support law enforcement and first responders.

How cool would it be to see a small business actually make a big win against Big Tech with support of our own law structure?

Sounds like that is just the way it should be.

Thanks Ron. For whatever it is worth, keep up the good work.
