Musk Suggests America Should Pull Out of NATO and UN

Elon Musk has spoken what leftist-globalist organizations making billions off the U.S. taxpayer are terrified of hearing – that America needs to leave them. Is it high time to rid the country of NATO and UN?

The left along with many softcore conservatives has feared President Trump’s unhappiness with the globalist NATO and UN for years. Firebrand conservatives, on the contrary, have supported the idea. In 2023, Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene of GA called for leaving NATO and proposed an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) toward that end.

Leftist news machinery like Newsweek was quick to argue against the proposal and tried to revive the debunked narrative of Trump favoring Putin against the west by withdrawing from NATO. The globalist voices made the noise that NATO is vital to American interests on the international scene and that it looks bad on Trump to suggest dumping NATO.

Given how NATO’s leftist leadership has actively sabotaged peace efforts in the Ukraine-Russia war over the past three years, conservatives have increasingly come to see NATO as a warmongering entity using proxies like Ukraine to enrich the military-industrial complex.

At the same time, the United Nations has become an unnecessary and even destructive burden for America. With its huge funding of countless big and small organizations working around the world with little to no accountability but abundance of shady activities, the key UN agencies also further a leftist political and social agenda that is at odds with conservative values – pushing tyrannical vaccine/health mandates, transgenderism, open borders, gay marriage, climate activism, and DEI policies, to name some.

One of the first things Trump did on stepping back into the Oval Office is withdraw the United States from the World Health Organization (WHO), the key UN health agency, as well as ordering a review of America’s funding for the UN in general. The measures were part of Trump’s commitment to cut waste for which he created the special department of DOGE, headed by Elon Musk.

On Saturday (1st of March), Musk replied to a post on X (Twitter) by popular MAGA conservative Gunther Eagleman who suggested that the US needs to leave both NATO and the UN. Musk replied tersely, “I agree.”

The New York Post reported (March 2) that conservative Senator Mike Lee of UT had already called for withdrawal from NATO and the UN the same day. The story cited Senator Lee posting:

“Europe doesn’t love us. Let’s leave NATO.”

Commenting on Musk’s approval of the idea, former Senator Ron Paul of Texas endorsed the suggestion and reminded how he had suggested U.S. withdrawal from NATO many years ago.

Anticipating Trump’s possible victory and exit from NATO, Congress passed legislation in December 2023 to prevent him from doing so. Introduced by Republican Senator Marco Rubio – who ironically is now Trump’s Secretary of State – and Democrat Senator Tim Kaine in 2023, the legislation was made part of the 2024 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) and signed by Joe Biden. It bars the U.S. President from leaving NATO without acquiring two-thirds Senate approval or authorization through an act of Congress.

However, a number of media platforms have since expressed the concern that Trump still has a number of way via which he may undermine America’s participation in NATO without formally leaving the organization.
