It is obvious from the nature of the news reporting that the radical left believes that they have a way to derail what is expected to be strong Republican gains in the 2022 midterm election – even as they are making excuses for the pending setback.
As far as excuses go, the problem, according to the Democrats, is that they are just not doing a good job of messaging – telling the people all the good things they claim they have done for the people. Of course, the media cronies have been playing that message over and over. The problem is not getting the message out. It is that the public is not drinking the Kool-Aid.
Many on the left do not think the happy-days-are-here- again approach is the right message. They have a better(?) idea. It was seen on MSNBC’s “Dateline: White House” program hosted by Nicole Wallace. This particular show featured such hardcore Republican-haters as Charlie Sykes, editor of The Bulwark. He is a former Republican (as is Wallace) who claims to still be a conservative (which Wallace does not). The other guest contributors were Kimberly Atkins Stohr, of the Boston Globe and Jake Sherman, founder of Punchbowl News – sycophants.
They believe that it is essential – even existential – for Democrats to make the 2022 elections exclusively about … the demise of the Republic if Republicans win control of the House and/or the Senate — and elect any governorships, state attorneys general, secretaries of state and seats on school boards.
This goes along with the Democrat’s ongoing efforts to convince the American public that the awful riot on Capitol Hill was an insurrection … a failed coup attempt. And that the 233-year-old American democracy came close to ending on January 6, 2021. The riot was condemnable, but the Republic was not at the slightest risk.
Democrats and their media cronies have expanded the events on Capitol Hill to an ongoing conspiracy to overthrow the government in the 2022 election. (They miss the irony of trying to discredit the future election after all their rejections of Trump’s warnings that the 2020 elections would be stolen by the Democrats. That is pure hypocrisy.)
Stroh summed up the left’s political narrative by saying without equivocation that if Republicans get control of the Congress, it will mark “the end of our democracy.” That theme was echoed by Sykes, Sherman and Wallace.
Not only are they pushing that as “a” narrative, but they propose that it should be the only issue upon which Democrats should campaign. Forget about inflation, the border crisis, high crime rates, war in Ukraine and woke education. They even suggest abandoning Democrat efforts to convince the voting public that Democrats have achieved some positive accomplishment, such as … uh… hmmm …
They claim that the only issue should be the protection of the Republic from the specious danger they have concocted. Nothing else is important … apparently not even climate change.
The Wallace team may not have noticed that the GOP-will-destroy-democracy narrative is not working with the public any better than the things-are-a-lot-better-than-you-think narrative.
What surprised me most is that supposedly intelligent people can believe that their bullpoop – either variety – will defeat Republican campaign issues in 2022. These are the kinds of suggestions only desperate – really desperate – people conjure up.
If all the Democrats have to offer is to convince the public that what they see in their daily lives is not real — or that an end-of-the-world campaign narrative best suited for Hollywood movies — they are truly in trouble.
It is a little like seeking one of two carpenters to build some kitchen cabinets. One carpenter sounds like he would to a good job, but the other guy screams hysterically: “IF YOU HIRE THE OTHER GUY, HE WILL TEAR DOWN YOUR ENTIRE HOUSE RIGHT TO THE FOUNDATION!!!”
Wallace & Co. are not outliers in terms of Democrat thinking. Others proffer the same dark vision. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s kangaroo Select Committee is supposed to close the deal on the doomed democracy conspiracy theory. That is because Democrats are smart enough to know that the Department of Justice will not be able to find an insurrection much less a coup attempt no matter how hard the left pumps that narrative in the court-of-public-opinion.
What will all those Chicken Littles on the left say when Republicans do take control of the House and the sky does not fall – and the sun rises the morning after the November election? And the American Republic is as sound as ever. Will they call it a rigged election – without any proof? Will they blame it all on Elon Musk owning Twitter? Or will they blame it all on Putin?
I have been advising candidates for many years. If I were to advise Democrats this year, I would tell them to give up. You have nothing to run on that is resonating with the people. And your nutty narratives will only produce a bigger victory for the GOP.
Wanna bet that if Republicans sweep the midterm elections, we will still have a strong democratic Republic this time next year? Maybe even stronger.
So, there ‘tis.
