Insulting statues depicting President Trump and the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein were spotted Tuesday on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. — the latest event in the controversy over the president’s ;relationship with the financier.

A plaque between the two statues reads, “In Honor of Friendship Month,” followed by, “We celebrate the long-lasting bond between President Donald J. Trump and his ‘closest friend,’ Jeffrey Epstein.”

Plaques beneath the depictions of the president and Epstein also ;quote a message ;Trump reportedly wrote as a birthday present for the financier over two decades ago, which Democrats on the House Oversight Committee released earlier this month, after the Epstein estate turned it over to the panel.

A group called The Secret Handshake is taking credit for the surprise protest art piece, which is the third such anti-Trump installation to pop up in the capital since June. The group also erected the so-called “Dictator Approved” piece, an 8-foot-tall sculpture of a hand squashing the crown of the Statue of Liberty while making a thumbs-up gesture, and the “Gold TV statue” multimedia installation, in which a golden TV showed images of Trump dancing, including with Epstein.

“We’re a very small group of citizens who are using art, irony, and humor to express social commentary and spark political conversation in public spaces,” the group said in a Sept. 23 statement to the press.

The Secret Handshake said the piece is in celebration of “Friendship Month,” a tongue-in-cheek reference to the once-close friendship between Trump and Epstein, who died by suicide in jail in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges. Trump’s administration has come under intense criticism over its handling of records related to the case, rankling many leading voices within the MAGA-sphere.

Trump offered the press a scathing response to the statue.

“Liberals are free to waste their money however they see fit – but it’s not news that Epstein knew ;Donald Trump, because Donald Trump kicked Epstein out of his club for being a creep,” a statement from the White House read.

In a statement to the New York Times, the White House said: “Democrats, the media, and the organization that’s wasting their money on this statue knew about Epstein and his victims for years and did nothing to help them while President Trump was calling for transparency, and is now delivering on it with thousands of pages of documents.”

The offensive statue was removed one day after it appeared.
