Liberals Want Obama SCOTUS Judge Sotomayor to Resign Immediately

The party of pretentious joy is in chaos after its hand-picked candidate Kamala Harris suffered a humiliating defeat by President Trump just over a week ago. Instead of showing unity and respect to senior women, they now want one of the three liberal judges – Sonya Sotomayor – gone, and gone immediately.

Leftist publication The Daily Beast reported on November 8, just three days after Trump’s victory in the presidential election, that Democrats are “secretly fighting” over an emergency plan to remove Justice Sotomayor so as to be replaced with a younger liberal judge while Biden is still in office and has the authority to nominate a new SCOTUS candidate. The story wrote:

Senators are reportedly at odds over whether to put pressure on Sotomayor—the first Latina justice—to step down while Democrats still have the power to usher in her replacement.

The Democrats’ panic comes out of a lesson they learned from the death of liberal SCOTUS judge Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who died in 2020, letting Trump appoint a third conservative – Amy Coney Barrett – to the Supreme Court. Now the liberals fear the same may happen to Sotomayor, who is 70 and diabetic, during the second Trump term that starts in a couple of months.

Some Democrat senators are reportedly against such a rush of a replacement and the lack of unity in the party leadership is making it a pipedream. Others have proposed possible replacements for Sotomayor. One name, as reported by Daily Express, is that of Washington D.C. Circuit Judge J. Michelle Childs. Liberal CNN commentator Attorney Bakari Sellers, who is a former South Carolina House member, suggested that Sotomayor could retire and let Joe Biden put Kamala Harris on the bench before Trump takes charge of the White House.

Leftist news platform The Hill discussed the Sotomayor replacement proposal on Monday such that the two commentators on the show disagreed over whether Sotomayor is too old to continue serving through Trump’s second presidency.

Both prominent conservatives and Democrats in leadership roles, however, have called the calls for goading Sotomayor off the bench a no-no. Republican Senator Josh Hawley of MO responded to The Daily Beast article about Sotomayor suggestion by posting on X, “This is not happening. No way, no how.”

Fox News reported on Monday (November 13) that Democrat Senate Judiciary Chair Dick Durbin poured cold water over the hopes of desperate Democrats who want to replace Sotomayor by calling the idea unrealistic and nothing more than “idle speculation.”

So far, Sotomayor has given indication that she has any plans to step down.
