Left-wing engages in petty politics over success of US attack on Iran

We have come to understand that NOTHING President Trump says or does is immune from venal and petty attacks by the evergreen anti-Trump Resistance Movement—exacerbated by what is often called Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS), marked by extreme frustration, bitterness, and irrational anger.

Now we face the left’s mendacious spin on the impressive and successful attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities—particularly the deeply buried Fordow uranium enrichment site. By every measure, it was a highly successful mission — exquisitely planned and expertly executed.

The objective was to cripple Iran’s nuclear industry and force Ayatollah Ali Khamenei – or whoever is now in charge– to the negotiating table through a ceasefire. Trump believed a decisive military strike would pressure Iran into agreeing to peace terms—essentially a surrender. Much like the bombs dropped on Japan that ended the war in the Pacific theater in World War II, this dramatic display of military might and political resolve forced Tehran to cry “uncle” (Sam, that is). It was either seek a negotiated settlement or face utter defeat and the collapse of the terrorist regime that has ruled Iran since 1979.

There can be no mistaking the fact that Operation Midnight Hammer put three major nuclear facilities out of commission. That is the critical fact. It also succeeded in convincing Iran to agree to a ceasefire. That’s another indisputable fact—two HUGE accomplishments.

How long those sites will remain offline falls somewhere between Trump’s “never” and his critics’ dubious estimate of two to three months. And that’s assuming Iran is both willing and able to dedicate the necessary resources—without interference from the U.S. or Israel. That seems rather unrealistic.

Democrats and the left-wing establishment are myopically focused on the extent of the damage and promote the fantastical scenario in which Israel and the U.S. merely undertook a military mission that failed to achieve its stated objective. But it should be clear even to obsessive anti-Trumpers that the old, failed approach is no longer in play under President Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu.

For days, media outlets have fixated on the extent of the damage—as part of yet another belabored anti-Trump narrative. They claim he is deceiving the American public. But even if Trump exaggerated (Trump? Exaggerate?), it’s a minor issue compared to the mission’s real impact. Even if the damage wasn’t “total,” it was more than sufficient to accomplish the larger and more important goals – stopping enrichment of uranium and bringing Iran to the negotiating table as a supplicant. And why not? Iran has not only been rendered defenseless, but its offensive capabilities have been critically diminished. Thanks to Netanyahu’s “enough is enough” policy following the October 7 attack, Iran no longer has its proxy militias to carry on its jihadist cause.

Virtually every Democrat and left-wing media figure has turned the “damage issue” into their top talking point. They want it to be the centerpiece of congressional hearings. Several House members—led by the fringe left—even introduced articles of impeachment against Trump for both the attack and his alleged misrepresentations. The resolution failed, but 128 Democrats joined Republicans to defeat that political stunt in a 344 to 79 vote. Apparently, there still are relatively sane Democrats.

This damage debate dominates the airwaves, as partisan, Trump-hating analysts inflate a molehill into a mountain. It is no more relevant than arguing how many angels can dance on the head of a pin. Its sole purpose is to spin yet another attack on Trump. It’s petty. It undercuts America’s interests by undermining U.S. foreign policy. It violates the long-standing tradition of leaving politics at the water’s edge.

Once again, Democrats pay lip service to policy while undermining it with their actions. Just as they have been saying that they support deporting dangerous individuals, then fight every effort. They claim Iran must never acquire a nuclear bomb, then oppose every step taken to stop it.

This confliction of the mind was evident in former Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s comments. He said, “I very much hope it (the attack on Iran nuclear facilities) succeeded”. And at the same time, speaking from both sides of his mouth, Blinken added, “The strike on three of Iran’s nuclear facilities by the United States was unwise and unnecessary.” (That kind of thinking is precisely why Blinken was appointed Biden’s top diplomat. (The official language of the pinstriped pants folks seems to be this gobbledygook. But I digress.)

A surprising exception came from Chris Matthews—a staunch Democrat—who, appearing on MSNBC, sharply criticized fellow Democrats for attacking what he described as a “brilliant and much-needed action” against a terrorist regime bent on destroying Israel and threatening the United States.

While attending the NATO summit, Trump addressed the issue in response to questions from American media outlets obsessed with claims of minimal damage. He expressed frustration with an industry seemingly dedicated to universal condemnation of Trump, his administration, and Republicans across the board, with a manufactured controversy.

And as a footnote, Trump fully complied with legal requirements to notify Congress. He was not obligated to consult them beforehand, nor to risk leaks by sharing operational details before the strike commenced. As for his constitutional authority to order the mission, I expect he will be vindicated should that matter reach the Supreme Court.

It’s not my style to engage in name-calling. Trump certainly has a pugnacious, combative personality. But it’s hard to deny that he has been very effective in his way. He essentially dismantled Tehran’s nuclear program, broke the back of Iran’s military and helped secure a ceasefire. Those are HUGE achievements compared to the trivial debate about damage assessments. He is also right to call out the dishonest and biased coverage that dishonors the American heroes who executed the mission.

Trump broke with the appeasement policies of the past and took decisive action to not only stop Iran’s nuclear program, but to put the kibosh on their role as the number one state sponsor of international terrorism.

So, there ‘tis.
