Leaks by Senior Officials Reinforce the Public Distrust in DOJ

&NewLine;<p class&equals;"wp-block-paragraph">The aggressive attempts of the Department of Justice &lpar;DOJ&rpar; to undermine President Trump’s reelection have fallen flat against the MAGA movement that saw a big victory in November&period; In an apparent attempt at damage control&comma; the DOJ’s Office of Inspector General &lpar;OIG&rpar; has now revealed that three of its officials leaked &OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;non-public” investigation information to media right before the an unspecified election&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p class&equals;"wp-block-paragraph">On Monday &lpar;December 30&rpar;&comma; the OIG posted a one-page investigative summary of its probe into complaints against politically motivated leaks about &OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;ongoing matters” to select reporters shortly before an election&period; The leaks led to the publication of two news articles just days before the election&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p class&equals;"wp-block-paragraph">The OIG summary of the probe stated that three senior former DOJ officials were found responsible for the leaks in violation of the department’s policies&period; The three unnamed officials were not working at the DOJ anymore when the OIG contacted them for an interview&period; The three either didn’t respond to the OIG correspondence or declined to be interviewed&period; The matter has been referred to the Office of the Deputy Attorney General&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p class&equals;"wp-block-paragraph">With the trust in federal agencies hitting a historic low&comma; the DOJ currently is one of the most publicly distrusted federal authorities as reported in <em>Townhall<&sol;em> &lpar;November 26&rpar;&period; Conservatives are very aware of this distrust since the DOJ has repeatedly been shown to favor the left-aligned deep state&period; Leaking information to sway election outcomes is one of the many ways the DOJ has worked to undermine the conservative movement in the country&period; <em>Newsweek<&sol;em> acknowledged this partisan distrust of the DOJ in its recent story about the leaks in question&colon;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p class&equals;"wp-block-paragraph"><em>Specifically&comma; the DOJ has come under scrutiny from some Republicans who have accused it and other federal law enforcement agencies of weaponizing their authority and using it against President-elect Donald Trump&period;<&sol;em><&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p class&equals;"wp-block-paragraph">Earlier in December&comma; the OIG released a damning report about the FBI’s role in the January 6&comma; 2021 events&period; As reported in <em>The Western Journal<&sol;em>&comma; the OIG report admitted that the FBI had more than two dozen &OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;confidential human sources” among the January 6 protesters on the Capitol grounds&period; The details revealed&colon;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p class&equals;"wp-block-paragraph"><em>There were a total of 26&nbsp&semi;confidential human sources&nbsp&semi;on the ground on Jan&period; 6&period; Of that group&comma; four entered the Capitol and an additional 13 entered the restricted area around the building&period;<&sol;em><&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p class&equals;"wp-block-paragraph">Reacting to the revelation&comma; legal analyst and commentator Jonathan Turley questioned the prosecutorial process of hundreds of January 6 protesters in the light of this previously undisclosed information by the DOJ&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p class&equals;"wp-block-paragraph"><a href&equals;"https&colon;&sol;&sol;twitter&period;com&sol;JonathanTurley&sol;status&sol;1867271115011502082">https&colon;&sol;&sol;twitter&period;com&sol;JonathanTurley&sol;status&sol;1867271115011502082<&sol;a><&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p class&equals;"wp-block-paragraph">It’s interesting that the Department of Justice is seemingly admitting the political actions targeting conservatives and violations of its own policies right before Trump’s upcoming inauguration as the next President&period; Could this be an attempt to come off as fair and ready to work neutrally in the Trump administration&quest; More importantly&comma; are these acknowledgments enough to restore the public trust in the DOJ or do we need to see serious accountability and dig deeper into what still lies beneath the surface&quest;<&sol;p>&NewLine;
