Kevin Durant signs with Golden State – the Next 'Super Team'?
Kevin Durant the mainstay for many years of the Oklahoma City Thunder has singed a two year contract with the Golden State Warriors. He joins the Splash Brothers Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson to form perhaps the next “super team.”
With Durant, the Warriors could be considered the most talented team ever in the NBA. Golden State went 73 and 9 in the 2015-2016 season, the best record in NBA history but then fell short in the championship, losing to LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers in a 7 game slugfest.
Durant said it was the best thing for his professional development, perhaps thinking he would never win a championship with Oklahoma. He signs for a reported $54 million.
This is an emotional move for Durant, he has been with the Thunder (and its predecessor the Seahawks) since he was drafted in 2007. Quoted in theplayerstribune.com:
“The primary mandate I had for myself in making this decision was to have it based on the potential for my growth as a player — as that has always steered me in the right direction. But I am also at a point in my life where it is of equal importance to find an opportunity that encourages my evolution as a man: moving out of my comfort zone to a new city and community which offers the greatest potential for my contribution and personal growth. With this in mind, I have decided that I am going to join the Golden State Warriors.”
