Jeb Bush: Show respect for illegal aliens

In an interview for “The Kelly File” Jeb Bush said the United States needs an immigration policy that shows respect for some illegal immigrants currently in the country
“There’s got to be a point where we fix this system so that legal immigration is easier than illegal immigration, and show some respect for people, a kid that might have been here 10 years, that might have been valedictorian of their high school, to say ‘No, no, no, you’re not allowed to go to college?'” Bush said. “I just think there’s a point past which we’re over the line.”

Author’s comments:
While conservative hardliners frequently call for “rounding up” and throwing out illegal aliens, mainstream conservative thought is moving away from this, because it simply can’t be done.  I’ve seen what happens when governments try to forcibly move large numbers of people. To be even marginally effective, its an ugly, brutal process. With an estimated 11.5 million illegals in the country (some say 20 million) and the people who would support them, it would be tantamount to civil war.  Such an effort would not even get off the ground before the American people would find the bloodshed and cruelty intolerable.
The author believes the first step must be the reinforcement of the borders, stop the flow of illegal immigrants into the United States.  The fact of the matter is we are a nation of immigrants, and we have always wanted new immigrants, and always will.
What we don’t need is a slave culture, people who can be blackmailed and abused without recourse because if they report something they might be deported.  I’ve seen this, it’s not what America is about.  The increase in income may be good for the illegal, but its bad for American society.
No doubt that immigration laws need to be reformed (after the borders are sealed, not before, in this author’s opinion), but personally I want people coming invited through the front rather than sneaking in the back door and sqatting.
