Former Vice President Joe Biden on Sunday said he is not ruling out a presidential run in 2020 (keep in mind, if elected, he would be 78 years old on inauguration day).

“I’m really hoping that some other folks step up,” Biden told MSNBC host Al Sharpton. “I think we have some really good people.”

Biden, who unsuccessfully sought the Democratic presidential nomination in 1988 and 2008, says he needs to be certain that whoever earns the nomination in 2020 is someone who can beat Trump.

When asked what – if anything – would make him seriously consider running in 2020, Biden said, “I’ve got to be able to look in the mirror, and, if I walk away, know I’m not walking away because I’m afraid or I’m worried about losing or that I just don’t want to take on the responsibility.”

Biden had been serious about running in 2016 until the tragic death of his son Beau in 2015. The former vice president says he has “plenty of time to consider whether or not to run” and, for the time being, is focused on “electing a ;Democratic Congress to stop this erosion of the core of who we are.”

Biden’s ;deliberations about running for president coincide with the claim that he could have beaten Donald Trump in a high school fight. “If we were in high school, I’d take him behind the gym and beat the hell out of him,” Biden told a group of students at the University of Miami.

President Trump responded on Twitter: ;“Crazy Joe Biden is trying to act like a tough guy. Actually, he is weak, both mentally and physically, and yet he threatens me…he would go down fast and hard, crying all the way. Don’t threaten people Joe!”

Biden is currently on tour promoting his new book, his cancer initiative, his new domestic policy institute in Delaware, and his new PAC, American Possibilities.

Editor’s note: It appears that Joe is publicizing his book tour. Bet you $10 he won’t run.
