As Iran is being pounded by the United States and Israel, we can see the irrationality of Islamic extremism. It is what causes people to blow themselves up with body bombs or undertake kamikaze style missions such as the 9/11 attacks on America. It explains the obsessive “Death to America” campaign. It is what creates lone wolf terrorists. It is a combination of messianic religious zealotry and lust for power that motivates their death cult insanity.

We see it now on full display. Iran has all but lost the war. They have no hope of defeating – or even resisting – the two most powerful militaries in the world. Once a significant military power, Iran no longer has an air force. They no longer have a navy. According to intelligence estimates, they have expended 80 to 90 percent of their ammunition – and lost the ability to produce more because the factories are being leveled. They have no nuclear program. Most of the top leadership was killed in a single attack – and successors are being taken out as soon as they appear.

Iran is ostensibly being led by a man who may be in a coma, disfigured and missing a leg – a leader who has not been seen, photographed or recorded since his rise to Supreme Leader. At this point, he is little more than a symbolic cardboard cutout.

Any rational leadership would have flown the white flag – surrendered, as President Trump suggested. But those who cling to diminishing power in Iran are not rational. Consequently, they will fight on even in the face of certain defeat and death. It is the same desperation and madness that had Hitler recruiting children to defend him as the allies approached Berlin.

As a regime, Iran is lashing out in its death throes – taking the kind of violent actions sometimes seen in a person about to die. It does not change the outcome. At best, it may provide a meaningless level of fatal self-satisfaction.

That is the kind of war Iran is now waging. If they have even a semblance of rationality, they must know the end is near. If they think there is a path to victory, they are totally insane … delusional.

The madness in Iran has reached the stage in which they will sacrifice their own people. They will attack neutral neighbors. They will intentionally create an oil crisis that hits as hard at their allies – China, for example – as it does their adversaries.

The attacks on refineries in other Arab nations makes no strategic sense. Quite the opposite. It brings them into the war against Iran. The attacks on civilian targets in Dubai are notably crazy. That is one of the richest Arab nations in the Middle East – and one that has notoriously stayed free of terrorism.

The attacks on oil tankers make no sense. Yes, they can temporarily disrupt the flow of oil and create price increases. But, after the war all that will return to normal.

At this stage, it seems that Iran’s strategy is to create as much pain and suffering as possible without any strategic benefit. It is the old, “If I go down, you go with me.” Pure madness.

This war will not last long. It is not another Vietnam or Afghanistan. We may wind up with boots on the ground as a “mop up” action – and to be sure the old guard does not figuratively rise from the dead.

What we are seeing is the final moments of a football game, with a score of 36 to zero. The losing team may score a few more points, but the outcome has become inevitable.

So, there ‘tis.

Iran’s Madness is on Full Display
