Iran Threatens Europe with Nukes
The deputy head of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said Iran will increase its nuclear weapon range in the event that Tehran is threatening by Europe.
As reported by the Far news agency, Iran has the capacity to expand its missile range to above 2,000 kilometers.
“It is not due to lack of technology if we have not increased range of our missiles over 2000 kilometers; it is because we have a strategic doctrine,” said Hossein Salami, second-in-command of the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC.) “So far we have felt that Europe is not a threat, so we did not increase the range of our missiles. But if Europe wants to turn into a threat, we will increase the range of our missiles.”
This comes after the French President said he was “very concerned” by Tehran’s missile program on November 9. He even mentions imposing stricter sanctions on Tehran, separate from the 2015 Iran deal.
The U.S. also believes that Iran’s missile program is in breach of the Iran deal because they could act as a vehicle for these weapons in the future.
Mohammad Ali Jafari, the commander of Iran’s IRGC, claims that the missile program is completely separate from the country’s nuclear one, which is allegedly for civilian uses only.
“This issue [missile program] is different from the nuclear issue. Missile power is a defensive capability,” said Ali Jafari.
Iran continues to argue that its missile program is merely a defensive measure and is not negotiable.
However, these claims are inconsistent with the accusations made earlier this month.
“The United States accused Iran this month of supplying Yemen’s Houthi rebels with a missile that was fired into Saudi Arabia in July and called for the United Nations to hold Tehran accountable for violating two U.N. Security Council resolutions,” writes Reuters.
But, Iran continues to deny supplying the Houthis with the warheads.
“Yemen is in total blockade. How could we have given them any missile?” said Salami in the Fars report from over the weekend. “If Iran can send a missile to Yemen, it shows the incapability of (the Saudi coalition). But we have not given them missiles.”
Jafari did admit that Iran does provide “advisory and spiritual” assistance to the Houthis.
Author’s note: Iran’s recent warning to Europe only proves that the country needs to have stricter consequences. This just demonstrates the failure of the Iran agreement. Now Iran is threatening Europe with being in missile range, but we all know the country means warhead range. Iran’s military is trying to remind us that they aren’t afraid to use their arsenal of weapons and no deal could really stop them.
Editor’s note: This is the nightmare scenario we had hoped to avoid. Obama’s Iran deal was not only ineffective, it has helped to enable Iran to get to this position. Thanks, Obama.
