Ilhan Omar Slapped with Ethics Complaint over Campaigning with Somali Leader

Democrat Congresswoman Ilhan Omar of Minnesota is again facing backlash and an ethics complaint, this time over her open association with her native country Somalia’s leadership to help with her reelection campaign.

Ilhan Omar, who is a black Muslim born in Somalia and grew up in America after arriving in the country as a refugee and seeking asylum with her family, is no stranger to controversy. She has been a vocal race-baiter and America-hater on the House floor and in media appearances. Recently, Omar participated in a campaign event where former Somali Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire endorsed her.

The involvement of a foreign leader in her campaign rally earned Omar some backlash on social media as well as an ethics complaint filed by the American Accountability Foundation (AAF). The complaint claims that Omar likely violated the Federal Elections Campaign Act and asks for her resignation. The AAF statement reads:

“We are deeply concerned by Ilhan Omar’s illegal campaign rally with the former Prime Minister of Somalia. Omar already has a long history of statements indicating her disdain for America and allegiance to Somalia, but this goes beyond statements. Now her campaign has taken action to involve a foreign leader in an American election. She must resign immediately and return every dollar raised for her at this disgraceful rally.”

Omar was expelled from the House Foreign Affairs Committee in February 2023 over her past comments against Israel, which were deemed antisemitic by conservatives. The move was called Islamphobic and racist by Omar and her fellow House Democrats.

In April this year, the Anti-Defamation League condemned Ilhan Omar for a statement that called some Jewish students in America “pro-genocide” as she visited her daughter Isra Hirsi at the Columbia University. Hirsi was one of the dozens of anti-Israel protesters arrested at Columbia and suspended from the school over trespassing. Last month, Fox News reported business-related fraud involving Omar’s current husband, whose consulting firm got $3 million from Omar’s 2020 election campaign.

Ilhan Omar has also showed open hatred toward white people on several occasions including her public speeches and media interviews.

Omar remains accused of committing immigration fraud by marrying her brother, at least on paper, in order to make him an American citizen. In August 2021, Tucker Carlson reported on Fox News that the FBI apparently knew of Omar’s immigration fraud but didn’t do anything about it.
