House Dems Push to Remove “God” Reference from Witness Oath

<p><span style&equals;"font-family&colon; -apple-system&comma; BlinkMacSystemFont&comma; 'Segoe UI'&comma; Roboto&comma; Oxygen-Sans&comma; Ubuntu&comma; Cantarell&comma; 'Helvetica Neue'&comma; sans-serif&semi;">Democrats on the House Committee on Natural Resources want to remove the traditional phrase &OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;so help you god” from the oath given to witnesses testifying before the panel&period; <&sol;span><&sol;p>&NewLine;<p><strong>The full question would read&colon;<&sol;strong><&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>&&num;8220&semi;Do you solemnly swear or affirm&comma; under penalty of law&comma; that the testimony that you are about to give is the truth&comma; the whole truth&comma; and nothing but the truth&quest;”<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>The change is part of a package of new rules which also seeks to make the committee&&num;8217&semi;s proceedings gender neutral by changing all &&num;8220&semi;his&&num;8221&semi; and &&num;8220&semi;her&&num;8221&semi; pronouns in panel rules to &&num;8220&semi;their&&num;8221&semi; and using the term &&num;8220&semi;chair” instead of &OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;chairman&period;”<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>The committee&comma; which has oversight of national parks&comma; is also pushing to expand its authority over natural gas in Alaska&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>&OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;It is incredible&comma; but not surprising&comma; that the Democrats would try to remove God from committee proceedings in one of their first acts in the majority&comma;” argues GOP Rep&period; Liz Cheney &lpar;WY&rpar;&period; &OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;They really have become the party of Karl Marx&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p><em>The new rules are expected to be approved later this week&period; <&sol;em><&sol;p>&NewLine;<p><strong>Editor&&num;8217&semi;s note&colon;<&sol;strong> It&&num;8217&semi;s amazing to me how the Democrats willingly and&comma; indeed&comma; enthusiastically destroy American symbols at the slightest whim of the least of the fringe liberal groups who support them&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>An oath that does not include a higher power&comma; &&num;8220&semi;solemnly&&num;8221&semi; or not&comma; has absolutely no meaning&period; I&&num;8217&semi;ve heard many people lie &&num;8220&semi;solemnly&&num;8221&semi; without the slightest feeling of guilt&period;  It is the dedication to a higher power that conveys the intent from the individual that a statement is more than a mere declaration&comma; that the statement represents what he is&comma; not just what he says&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>The Democrats have no clue what they have done&comma; except in the most expedient and trivial political sense&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>&nbsp&semi;<&sol;p>&NewLine;
