House Dems Push to Remove “God” Reference from Witness Oath

Democrats on the House Committee on Natural Resources want to remove the traditional phrase “so help you god” from the oath given to witnesses testifying before the panel.

The full question would read:

“Do you solemnly swear or affirm, under penalty of law, that the testimony that you are about to give is the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth?”

The change is part of a package of new rules which also seeks to make the committee’s proceedings gender neutral by changing all “his” and “her” pronouns in panel rules to “their” and using the term “chair” instead of “chairman.”

The committee, which has oversight of national parks, is also pushing to expand its authority over natural gas in Alaska.

“It is incredible, but not surprising, that the Democrats would try to remove God from committee proceedings in one of their first acts in the majority,” argues GOP Rep. Liz Cheney (WY). “They really have become the party of Karl Marx.

The new rules are expected to be approved later this week.

Editor’s note: It’s amazing to me how the Democrats willingly and, indeed, enthusiastically destroy American symbols at the slightest whim of the least of the fringe liberal groups who support them.

An oath that does not include a higher power, “solemnly” or not, has absolutely no meaning. I’ve heard many people lie “solemnly” without the slightest feeling of guilt.  It is the dedication to a higher power that conveys the intent from the individual that a statement is more than a mere declaration, that the statement represents what he is, not just what he says.

The Democrats have no clue what they have done, except in the most expedient and trivial political sense.
