We can all agree that we are living in one of the most divisive and politically charged times in American history, but maybe not the worst – considering the Civil War and the 1960’s “Days of Rage” – but pretty bad.
The presidency of Donald Trump and the unhinged reaction to it from Democrats — and an unprecedentedly biased news media — has divided former political allies, friends and even families. The political atmosphere is so toxic that it is recommended that people maintain civil comity by not even mentioning politics at social and holiday gatherings.
The majority of the national mainstream media – long guilty of a left-wing bias – has been completely corrupted into partisan propaganda outlets – further exacerbating tribal public passions among the citizenry.
It cannot be denied that President Trump’s acerbic and pugnacious personality has been a contributing factor. In some ways, it has enabled the ever-present #NeverTrump Resistance Movement to find credible footing for its criticisms. But make no mistake. The extremity and dishonesty of the attacks on Trump go far, far, far beyond the President’s flaws. The opposition has lost all objectivity, integrity and civil decency.
It is not enough to attack Trump, his personality and even his policies. From the time of his inauguration, the Democrats and the media have been on a venomous attack on any and all who might find even some aspects of the Trump presidency to have merit or be deserving of praise.
They have a battle cry for their abject opposition. They demand that no one should “normalize Trump.” In other words, there can be no room for honest appreciation of good work. No acceptance of any facts that reflect well on Trump or his presidency.
According to the left, we should not be allowed to air differences over policy or opinion. No, No. No. According to the anti-Trump talking heads on the small screen, the millions of people supporting Trump to any measure are bad people in every way – ignorant, intolerant and immoral. In a word, deplorable.
Hillary Clinton was chastised at the time for referring to Trump voters as a “basket of deplorables.” Since then, the attack on roughly half the population has sunk to even lower levels of elitist depravity. Rick Wilson – a false flag so-called Republican strategist — provoked uncontrolled on-air laughter from CNN host Don Lemon for describing supporters of Trump as “ you know, the credulous boomer rube dumb-o that backs Donald Trump.” This led to an ongoing schtick mocking Trump supporters by Wilson and co-panelist, New York Times writer Wajahat Ali — all to the delight of Lemon, who closed the act with, “Thanks, I needed that.”
In something less than an apology, the Trump-hating Lemon explained that he was not referring to the people to whom Wilson WAS referring, but just laughing at the joke. What Joke? Would I get such guffaws from Lemon if I were to make crude stereotyping “jokes” mocking blacks or gays – two categories into which Lemon fits? Or, in this divisive political correctness world Lemon embraces are such “jokes’ only acceptable against Republicans, conservatives or white people.
MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough describes Trump’s defense team as a “confederacy of dunces” – invoking a round of congratulatory laughter from his bobblehead panelists. His insult was so popular among the left that the Washington Post used it as the header on a guest editorial by Scarborough. He and his paramour, Mika Brzezinski, are a dynamic duo of derogatory dialogue when it comes to Trump supporters. Not a morning goes by that they – and their guests – do not express their disdain for any and all who do not share their views.
All this is nothing more than a broad-based maligning effort by the unhinged and obsessively anti-Trump media to shame people away from the President. It is strategic. It is nothing less than a partisan effort to support the election of their Democrat allies. They want a Democrat in the White House. They want Democrats to take over the Senate. They want America to be run by a clique of east coast elitist – them. The left-wing American media is in full campaign armor.
The toxicity they produce permeates every corner of society. Folks wearing MAGA hats are being assaulted in public. Arrogant and self-righteous imitation Nazis are accosting Republican officials on the streets, at their homes and in restaurants and stores – incited by such Democrat officials as Congresswomen Maxine Waters and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez AND stirred to hatred by the drumbeat of a fully corrupted media that makes opponents the enemies of the state.
These ad hominem attacks on Trump, Republicans and conservatives at all levels have become increasingly more extreme and dangerous. Each time the left believes it had struck a fatal blow to the Trump presidency – and failed – the rhetorical heat is increased. The accusations become more extreme.
Even after the Mueller investigation debunked their two-year-long bogus accusations, the House Democrats launched an entirely political, unnecessary and ill-advised effort to remove Trump just short of an election because there is a good chance that Trump will be re-elected.
How obviously maddening this has been to Democrats and their friends in the press ho seem to believe that they should possess the power to mold public opinion at will.
There are no indications that the #NeverTrump Resistance Movement will return to fairness and decency after the President’s acquittal by the Senate. In fact, their attacks will likely become more vicious, more mendacious and more prevalent – if the latter is even possible.
The political left in America is so deranged over the Trump presidency that they will do anything to destroy him, his administration, Republican officeholders and grassroots supporters –even if they have to destroy the Constitutional Republic that once believed in e pluribus unum. And sadly, you ain’t seen nothing yet.
So, there ‘tis.
