I must confess … I thought the Democrats would keep raising the scepter of an impeachment against President Trump but would never pull the trigger. It now appears that they have slid so far down that slippery slope that they will have no choice but to make a real attempt to impeach Trump – and most likely will.
It is not only a potentially bad idea for Democrats, but they are going about it in an entirely bad way. While they will caterwaul about saving the Republic and defending the Constitution, they have very little credibility. That’s right! The elitist news media – for obvious reasons — never reports on the polls indicating the public’s opinion of their Democrat buddies in Congress. It would reveal that the Democrat leaders in Congress are no more popular than Trump on his worst day.
Also, impeachment is a political process, and Democrats will not get far with their sanctimonious claims that their calls for impeachment are not political.
While they see the phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as the latest rationale to bring the #NeverTrump Resistance Movement to their goal, their past record has been a string of failures despite the unwavering political support of the dishonest – and also unpopular — lackey mainstream media.
Democrats and the propagandized media led this nation on a disgraceful two-year false narrative of Trump’s alleged criminal collusion with the Russians. That gigantic hot air balloon was shot out of the sky by the final report of Special Counsel Robert Mueller – and attempts to revive it with periodic infusions of political poppycock have been equally and embarrassingly unsuccessful. And remember how Democrats promised to get Trump for violating federal election laws for paying off Stormy Daniels … the “emoluments clause” of the Constitution because foreigners are staying at his hotels … and, if they could, they would impeach him for tearing the “do not remove” tag from the mattresses?
In the frontline of the current attack on the Trump administration, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi kicks the ball to her Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff. You should recall that this is the same political hack that lied by claiming that he had seen hard evidence of Trump’s collusions with the Russians – something Mueller could not find in two years of investigation.
Weeeell … the sanctimonious political Pinocchio opens the first hearing by reading a totally damning “quote” – implying it is what Trump said on the phone to Zelensky. There was a wee bit of a problem, however. The words were totally made up by Schiff, himself. They were not remotely the words in the phone conversation. He was chastised by some Republicans on the Committee, but Schiff’s fake words were out there in the news sphere – which the press let pass without criticism. He claims they were just parody – which makes him more suited for a gig on Saturday Night Live than to chair a congressional committee.
The second problem for Democrats is they lack any evidence of “high crimes and misdemeanors.” Oh, I know. The Democrats, the propaganda press and all their panels of parroting pundits are all claiming that this time … this time … they have the goods on Trump for sure. They are fostering what appears to be yet another false narrative that falls short of facts and violations of law. And nothing will refute their uninformed and overstated opinions better than the impeachment effort – especially if they actually do impeach.
Right now. Speaker Pelosi has set up a series of kangaroo court-style legislative investigations. She calls them an “inquiry” because they are a pretend impeachment hearing. A real impeachment hearing is a much more formal process – and there are procedures to follow. This is a political circus.
The Democrats are making several mistakes that go to their credibility. They are moving entirely too quickly – revealing that they are not interested in “investigating.” While they say they need to wait until all the facts are in, they are already determined to impeach. They are like the judge who told the defendant, “We are going to give you a fair trial … and then hang you.” (Looking back on Democratic Party history, they are very experienced in that form of justice. But I digress.)
They are talking about passing Articles of Impeachment before Thanksgiving. Pelosi is going to have a very difficult time convincing the American public that she is undertaking a solemn and serious process in just six weeks. Trying to get it done between Thanksgiving and Christmas would make the Democrats look a bit Grinch-ish. After all, we do not evict folks or remand non-violent criminals to jail during the holidays in many places. On the other hand, the longer this “impeachment process” goes on, the more damaging it will be for the Democrats.
The radicals in the Democratic Party seem determined to dredge up all the old discredited issues. I mean, how many times can they sell the same old snake oil in a new bottle and expect the public to buy it?
The public already could be getting impeachment weary – all those other issues aside. Democrats do not come across as sincerely interested in defending the Republic based on last months phone call with Zelensky when they had actually started the impeachment push BEFORE Trump even took office. Upon arriving in Washington to assume her office, fresh-mouthed freshman Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib made it very clear what her primary focus was a most profound … I mean profane …. Calling – impeach the mother-effer
Like the prosecution in a court case, the Democrats control the docket at the beginning of these hearings – so we can expect a lot of selectively stitched-together facts, mendacious interpretations and no few political prairie pies advanced by pre-selected witnesses who are predisposed to hate Trump or who the Democrats believe will be forced to testify in support of their preconceived narratives. But there will be some room – as little as the Democrats will concede – for rebuttals. But … the rebuttals will be gaining more audience than those other dubious investigative hearings.
As we roll into the primary season for real, all those Democrat presidential wannabes will be suffocating since much of the political oxygen will be consumed by the impeachment news-of-the-day. Especially locked out of the news cycle will be those below the three (maybe two) frontrunners. This could force folks like Senator Cory Booker, Pamala Harris or Amy Klobuchar to go on the attack to garner the attention of the media.
And then there is the Senate.
No one is talking much about the upper chamber unless it is to speculate that they will never remove Trump from office – or speculate even more outlandishly that once the public understands what is going on the Republicans will have to cave. The left has long believed that the only reason all their attacks on Trump have not worked is that the people are stupid.
The likelihood is that the Senate will not remove Trump, which, in hindsight,- will make the impeachment carnival a monumental waste of time – and AGAIN leave Democrats with egg on their collective faces.
But there is more
If there are Articles of Impeachment against Trump and the Senate must stand as the jury, it will be the Republicans who set the agenda. They will set the rules and select the witnesses. If the House action was the case for the prosecution, the Senate may provide the defense.
In fact, if Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is smart – and most say he is – he will use the Senate hearing to attack the House. He could not only challenge the weakness of the House case – fact-by-fact – but he could drag out their motivations, their biases and their pure political chicanery and air it for the entire nation to see.
Imagine … in some of the most intense periods in the primary season having the news dominated by a mocking contempt of the House for weaponizing the impeachment process for crass political reasons.
Thanks to a shamefully biased media, Democrats may believe that they have the upper hand – and maybe they do at this moment. However, there are so many ways this could backfire on the Democrats it is hard to believe that it will not.
So, there ‘tis.
