In a letter unveiled Thursday, GOP lawmakers accuse House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff (D-CA) of using his rank to knowingly promote the false narrative that President Trump’s campaign colluded with Russia.
The letter, signed by all Republican members of the committee, also accuses Schiff of misleading the public and of damaging the committee’s reputation.
“Your actions both past and present are incompatible with your duty as Chairman of this committee, which alone in the House of Representatives has the obligation and authority to provide effective oversight of the US intelligence community,” reads the letter. “As such, we have no faith in your ability to discharge your duties in a manner consistent with your Constitutional responsibility and urge your immediate resignation as Chairman.”
The letter, unveiled by Mike Conway (R-TX), has support from Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), Steve Scalise, and President Trump.
Schiff responded to the letter by vowing to continue the Russia investigation on his own. Despite the conclusion of Robert Mueller’s investigation, Schiff told reporters this week that “undoubtedly there is collusion.”
