Georgia Tech Climate Scientist Resigns – Too Tough Being a Skeptic

<p>Climatologist Judith Curry is quitting her job at Georgia Tech because she can&rsquo&semi;t handle the &ldquo&semi;craziness&rdquo&semi; of politics in her field&period;&nbsp&semi;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>&ldquo&semi;I no longer know what to say to students and postdocs regarding how to navigate the craziness in the field of climate science&comma;&rdquo&semi; she wrote on her blog Climate&comma; etc&period;&nbsp&semi;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>Curry complains that today&rsquo&semi;s research is driven by a &ldquo&semi;politicized academic establishment&rdquo&semi; that forces scientists into a &ldquo&semi;battle of scientific integrity versus career suicide&period;&rdquo&semi; &nbsp&semi;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>Curry is a known critic of the belief that man-made climate change is pushing us towards catastrophe&period; She has been&nbsp&semi;branded as &ldquo&semi;anti-science&rdquo&semi; by fellow researchers for pointing out the deficiencies in climate change modeling&period;&nbsp&semi;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>When asked if mankind has contributed to rising temperatures over the past 50 years or so&comma; Curry told <em>Fox News<&sol;em>&colon; &ldquo&semi;My interpretation of the evidence is that <strong>we really can&rsquo&semi;t tell&period;<&sol;strong> And I don&rsquo&semi;t see a clear signal that it&rsquo&semi;s being caused by humans predominantly&period;&rdquo&semi;&nbsp&semi;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>Curry says she has been &ldquo&semi;vilified&rdquo&semi; by her colleagues for this point of view&period; &ldquo&semi;In the university environment I just felt like I was beating my head against the wall and not being effective&period;&&num;8221&semi;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>Curry will&nbsp&semi;continue to write on her blog after she retires from Georgia Tech&period; &ldquo&semi;At this point&comma; the private sector seems like a more &lsquo&semi;honest&rsquo&semi; place for a scientist working in a politicized field than universities or government labs &ndash&semi; at least when you are your own boss&comma;&&num;8221&semi; she said&period;&nbsp&semi;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>&nbsp&semi;<&sol;p>&NewLine;
