This week, after more than a year of facing down the Covid 19 pandemic worldwide with vaccines being distributed to nearly 120 million Americans, fully vaccinated HBO talk show host Bill Maher still discovered that he has contracted the virus.
The CDC has expected this to be the case, with some fully vaccinated people still catching covid despite distribution of the vaccines, mask mandates and social distancing. On its own website, the CDC shared a statement saying, “Vaccine breakthrough cases are expected. Covid 19 vaccines are effective and are a critical tool to bring the pandemic under control. However, no vaccines are 100% effective at preventing illness. There will be a small percentage of people who are fully vaccinated who still get sick, are hospitalized, or die from Covid 19.” It continues on to claim, “there is some evidence that vaccination may make the illness less severe.”
Masks or no masks?
This all comes as Dr. Anthony Fauci, head of the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said Thursday that vaccinated individuals do not have to wear a mask outdoors. The CDC itself even followed up later that day with new Covid guidelines claiming that those do not have to wear masks indoors either.
This flip flop of opinion has been commonplace through the past year facing the virus, seeming to say whatever is most convenient at the time. Remember, it was also Fauci who had said that masks were unnecessary at one point in time early on facing the pandemic.
In an article on April 15th of this year, CNN itself had even reported in an article at the time that 5,800 fully vaccinated people still reportedly got the virus.
With the virus continuing to spread worldwide, an article in The Epoch Times today says that the U.S. hit a 10 month low in virus deaths. Wonderful news for Americans, but we should still remain cautious as variants and mutations are hitting countries like India and Brazil pretty hard. Look into the ‘Black Fungus’ of India and know we do not want anything of the sort here.
For Bill Maher, his show on HBO shut down for the week. Despite this, Bill says he “feels perfectly fine, but I appreciate it” in a message to concerned fans.
As a conservative, Bill is one of the Democrats that I still have a great respect for, despite the fact that I do not agree with many of the ideals he has to share. I’m personally happy that he is still feeling well, but still also feel a concern that the vaccines themselves may not be as effective as some believe.
Moving Forward
Yesterday on the bus to work, I even heard an individual claim, “I have both of my shots so Covid cannot touch me. I’m superman.” This ignorance itself could cause the virus to spread to those who believe the pandemic cannot touch them.
I personally believe we should be getting back to work and that schools should reopen across the country. We shouldn’t fear the virus, but rather take care and keep focused responsibility in handling the pandemic moving forward. Do not let your guard down and continue to do what is best for you with the safety of all others in mind.
