First Amendment Forgotten as Space Force Commander Fired For Free Speech

Matthew Lohmeier

The foundation for why the United States of America is a great country is built up from our first amendment rights of freedom of speech, religion, press, petition, and assembly. This is the base line for what it means to be an American citizen at all times. Any event that violates these should raise red flags for all American citizens. No matter which side of the spectrum of belief one may place themselves.

As the base foundation of our law and order, will the first amendment be strong enough to protect the people from forces who want our freedoms to be forgotten?

A high ranking member of our military forces was just recently fired for using his freedom of speech in public. After a podcast interview with Information Operation, Lt. Col. Matthew Lohmeier of command of the 11th Space Warning Squadron from the newly established Space Force was fired for speaking out about concerns with our modern military being indoctrinated by Marxist ideologies.

“The diversity, inclusion and equity industry and the trainings we are receiving in the military… is rooted in critical race theory, which is rooted in Marxism.”

Lohmeier also went on the interview to promote his new book: Irresistible Revolution: Marxism’s Goal of Conquest and the Unmaking of the American Military. In the interview, he spoke freely about his thoughts. “Since taking command as a commander about 10 months ago, I saw what I consider fundamentally incompatible and competing narratives of what America was, is and should be. That wasn’t just prolific in social media, or throughout the country during this past year, but it was spreading throughout the United States military. I had recognized those narratives as being Marxist in nature.”

Marxism is the political ideology that forms the basis for modern communism. It is in direct opposition to our established nature and history of free market capitalism.

Why would an American commander be demonized for standing up and speaking out against Marxism?

The Department of Defense Directive 1344.10 does prohibit active-duty personnel from engaging in partisan political activities. However, they can still express their personal opinions according to our first amendment rights.

Lohmeier said, “My intent never has been to engage in partisan politics. I have written a book about a particular political ideology (Marxism) in the hope that our Defense Department might return to being politically nonpartisan in the future as it has honorably done throughout history.”

He continued, “What you see happening in the U.S. military at the moment is that if you’re a conservative, then you’re lumped into a group of people who are labeled extremists, if you’re willing to voice your views. And if you’re aligned with the Left, then it is ok to be an activist online because no one’s gonna hold you accountable.”

This leader of our military forces lost his job for speaking freely to the American public about his opinions and beliefs. Not to mention opinions and beliefs that many Americans today share. He didn’t disrupt or break down his duties, rather just shared problems that he sees to the public ear. He was removed from his position. And he became another passing story quickly forgotten in the speed of the modern news cycle.

Matthew Lohmeier should be able to keep his position at his job.

It should also be unconstitutional for the military to fire him. It should never have happened in the first place, in my personal opinion. I’d like to believe that our law and order would agree with that opinion.

So with that, maybe we should all just go read his new book.
