Dr. Anthony Fauci told an untruth to Congress while under oath. That is no longer a matter of debate. It is a confirmed fact. And ironically, it is his own National Institute of Health (NIH) that confirms it.
Perhaps you recall the heated televised exchange between Senator Rand Paul and Fauci. It got quite a bit of coverage largely so that the left-wing media could chastise Paul for daring to question the integrity of the highest paid bureaucrat in America.
Paul began by giving Fauci an opportunity to correct his previous testimony that the NIH – Fauci’s home base – had never funded gain-of-function research at the now infamous Wuhan Institute of Virology.
Gain-of-function is the type of procedure that enhances the ability of an animal-only virus to infect humans. While it is allegedly done to understand the mechanics of mutation, it can also be said to weaponize a virus.
Paul opened his questioning of Fauci with, “Knowing that it is a crime to lie to Congress, do you wish to retract your statement of May 11 where you claimed that the NIH never funded gain-of-function research in Wuhan?”
Fauci responded: “Senator Paul, I have never lied to Congress and I do not retract that statement.”
Fauci claimed that the research being funded in Wuhan was not gain-of-function – at which time shot back, “Senator Paul, you do not know what you are talking about.” And he repeated, “I want to say that officially. You do not know what you are talking about.” Fauci then pointed his finger at Paul and said, “If anyone is lying here, Senator, it is YOU.”
Paul made it clear that he was not saying that the gain-of-function research funded by NIH created the Covid-19 virus or was the cause of the Pandemic – but only that what was funded was gain-of-function research, which Fauci had repeatedly denied.
Weeell… On October 20th, the NIH released a letter that confirmed that the agency’s funds were used on gain-of-function research. AND, the research specifically involved bats.
However, the work was not related to the Covid-19 virus. It would be impossible for the viruses that were produced with NIH to have caused the specific Covid-19 Pandemic. But contrary to repeated and indignant claims by Fauci, it was gain-of-function research – just as Paul had said.
What is disturbing about Fauci’s false testimony is that he had every reason to know the truth. If he was unaware when Paul first raised the question, Fauci would have checked it out. He would have been obligated to check it out. Failure to do so would be a very serious malfeasance.
Why Fauci would have lied is a mystery. But one possible explanation is that he did not want the world to know that NIH was funding any gain-of-function research because it is so controversial – and especially funding a lab that is now believed to have used gain-of-function to produce the virus that has ravaged the world.
Dissecting Fauci’s testimony and his responses to Paul, there can be no doubt that Fauci was attempting to intentionally deceive Congress – lie, as it were. After proclaiming that he had never lied to Congress, Fauci proceeded to do just that.
So, there ‘tis.
