
<p>A political group calling itself <em>Jews for Zohran</em> is raising red flags among critics who say it is a Marxist front organization with direct ties to China. The campaign was launched earlier this year to support Zohran Mamdani, a far-left New York City mayoral candidate known for his hostile stance toward Israel. But behind the carefully branded Jewish support group is a deeply controversial figure: Alicia Singham Goodwin, niece of billionaire Neville “Roy” Singham, a Marxist tech tycoon now living in Shanghai and accused of helping spread Chinese propaganda abroad.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">The Niece and the Billionaire</h3>



<p>Alicia Singham Goodwin, 33, serves as the political director of <em>Jews for Racial and Economic Justice</em>, the nonprofit that launched <em>Jews for Zohran</em>. She is the daughter of Roy Singham’s sister, Shanti Singham, who chairs a department at China’s state-run East China Normal University and has publicly promoted Beijing’s Confucius Institutes in Africa. Alicia’s father, Daniel Goodwin, was also a longtime executive and counsel for Roy Singham’s company, ThoughtWorks.</p>



<p>Roy Singham, a self-identified Marxist who sold ThoughtWorks in 2017 for $785 million, has since relocated to China and reportedly uses his fortune to fund leftist causes that align with the Chinese Communist Party’s interests. His wife, Jodie Evans, runs CodePink, an activist group that has defended the Chinese regime and received money from Singham-affiliated sources.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">A Campaign Built on Identity Politics</h3>



<p>The stated goal of <em>Jews for Zohran</em> is to give Mamdani — who has publicly defended slogans like “globalize the Intifada” — political cover against accusations of antisemitism and to recruit Jewish voters. In a recent radio interview, Singham Goodwin described the group’s approach:</p>



<p>&#8220;<em>We, like, had our own voter file … and for phone banks that were only Jewish voters, and had, like, Jews talking to Jews.</em>&#8220;</p>



<p>Critics say this campaign is not grassroots but a calculated effort to manufacture legitimacy and deflect scrutiny.</p>



<p>Former Queens City Councilman Rory Lancman called the entire operation “frightening,” warning:</p>



<p><em>&#8220;The demonization of Israel leads to the demonization of Jews who support Israel, which is overwhelmingly the majority of Jews in the U.S. Receiving the endorsement of Jewish elected officials represents a normalization of the demonization of Israel and the demonization of Jews that naturally flows from that.&#8221;</em></p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">False Flag Operation?</h3>



<p>To some observers, <em>Jews for Zohran</em> is less about Jewish political engagement and more about creating the illusion of Jewish support for Mamdani’s extreme views. The group is working with city officials like Comptroller Brad Lander and Rep. Jerry Nadler to sway other prominent Jewish Democrats, including Sen. Chuck Schumer and Rep. Dan Goldman.</p>



<p>This approach is being seen by skeptics as a classic false flag tactic: create a group that appears homegrown and authentic to mislead the public and deflect criticism. In this case, they argue, it’s a foreign-funded operation masked as Jewish activism.</p>



<p>Supporters of <em>Jews for Zohran</em> argue that Mamdani’s critics are engaging in bad-faith attacks and weaponizing accusations of antisemitism. They claim the group provides a platform for progressive Jewish voices who want to see a more left-wing stance on Israel and domestic policies alike.</p>



<p>But skeptics see something far more coordinated and dangerous. House Republicans have already flagged Roy Singham for his financial support of groups involved in anti-ICE protests in Los Angeles and question whether he is acting as a proxy for Chinese political interests. The fact that his niece and her parents donated thousands to Mamdani from their luxury penthouse in Morningside Heights only deepens concerns about elite influence and foreign interference.</p>



<p>As Mamdani’s campaign ramps up and <em>Jews for Zohran</em> continues its outreach, critics warn the public to look past the labels and examine the network behind the movement — one that may have more to do with Beijing than Brooklyn.</p>
