Former President Donald Trump expects to face an arrest and indictment as part of the Department of Justice’s ongoing investigation into the Jan. 6th riots – specifically the ways in which the former president and his allies attempted to reverse the outcome of the 2020 presidential election.
In recent weeks, the grand jury investigation has focused on whether any of Trump’s lawyers committed crimes by sending false electoral counts to Congress and whether fundraising efforts backed by claims of election fraud represent a violation of the First Amendment.
Speaking with reporters, Trump said he received a letter from Special Counsel Jack Smith on Sunday informing him that he was a criminal target in the Jan. 6th investigation (this is the same Jack Smith who announced criminal charges against Trump in the spring).
“Deranged Jack Smith, prosecutor with Joe Biden’s DOJ, sent a letter stating that I am the TARGET of the January 6th Grand Jury Investigation, and giving me a very short four days to report to the Grand Jury, which almost always means an arrest or an indictment,” wrote Trump.
His post appeared on Truth Social, an alt-tech social media platform founded by the former president after he was banned from using Facebook and Twitter following the Jan. 6th incident.
“So now, Joe Biden’s Attorney General…together with Joe Biden’s Department of Injustice, have effectively issued a third indictment and arrest of Joe Biden’s NUMBER ONE POLITICAL OPPONENT, who is largely dominating him in the race for the presidency,” Trump continued.
Referencing the target letter, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) suggested the attack on Trump is nothing new. Once again, the Biden Administraiton is “weaponizing the government to go after its No. 1 opponent…I think the American public is tired of this.”
Polls for the 2024 election show Trump and Biden ahead of all other candidates, though an estimated 36% of Americans would prefer neither of them win.

Regarding claims that Trump incited his supporters to attack the Capitol on Jan. 6th, the former president maintained his constitutional right to protest an election that was “rigged and stolen” and criticized the Biden Administration for ‘harassing those who complain about the cheaters rather than investigate those guilty of election fraud.’
The Jan. 6th investigation is one of many ‘hoaxes and scams designed to make me stop fighting for the Americans people,” argued Trump, “BUT I WILL NEVER STOP!”
The long list of Democrat-led scams targeting Donald Trump includes:
- Illegal spying on Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign
- Attacks using a fake dossier (Steele Dossier) funded by Hillary Clinton
- Impeachments in 2019 and 2021
- The “Mueller Witch Hunt” and “Russia Hoax”
- Investigation concerning Trump’s alleged attempts to pressure Atlanta officials to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election in the state of Georgia
- Criminal charges issued from the Manhattan DA’s investigation into Trump’s alleged affair with Stormy Daniels
“THIS WITCH HUNT IS ALL ABOUT ELECTION INTERFERENCE AND A COMPLETE AND TOTAL POLITICAL WEAPONIZATION OF LAW ENFORCEMENT,” said Trump. “It is a very sad and dark period for our Nation!”
The most recent attack against Trump came in the form of an indictment detailing 37 federal charges against the former president including obstruction, false statements, and unlawful retention of defense information. Though he pleaded innocent, the liberal media pounced on the fact that Trump became the first former president to face criminal charges.
Seeking to catch RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel off guard, CNN host Chris Wallace asked her if the GOP would hesitate to nominate a convicted felon/someone who is under federal indictment as their preferred presidential candidate.
“I think the presumption of innocence stands,” replied McDaniel. “And I think there’s a lot of Republicans who are very troubled…At the end of the day, Chris, though, it’s not up to me. It’s up to the voters. They’re going to make their decision. They’re going to hear this and they’re going to decide if this is an issue for them come November or come the primary process.”
Author’s Note: Is Trump being investigated or persecuted? Given the fact that virtually all investigations into the former president’s “wrongdoings” have failed, the timing of the DOJ’s focus on the Jan. 6th investigation sure seems like an effort to wound Trump’s reputation as he continues to lead the polls.
