&NewLine;<p class&equals;"wp-block-paragraph">Even though most supporters of Donald J&period; Trump knew it was over before it even began&comma; Ron DeSantis&&num;8217&semi;s run for the White House is now officially over as the Florida Governor has dropped out of the primaries and has endorsed the former president&excl;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p class&equals;"wp-block-paragraph">&OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;Following our second-place finish in Iowa&comma; we’ve prayed and deliberated on our way forward&comma;” DeSantis said in a video message posted on X&comma; a few hours ahead of an event he had scheduled in New Hampshire&period; &OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;If there was anything I could do to produce a favorable outcome&comma; more campaign stops&comma; more interviews&comma; I would do it&period; But I can’t ask our supporters to volunteer their time and donate their resources if we don’t have a clear path to victory&period; Accordingly&comma; I am today suspending my campaign&period;”<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p class&equals;"wp-block-paragraph">&OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;It’s clear to me that a majority of Republican primary voters want to give&nbsp&semi;Donald Trump&nbsp&semi;another chance&comma;” the governor continued&period; &OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;While I have had disagreements with Donald Trump such as on the coronavirus pandemic and his elevation of Anthony Fauci&comma; Trump is superior to the current incumbent Joe Biden&period; That is clear&period;”&nbsp&semi;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p class&equals;"wp-block-paragraph">DeSantis went on to signal his support for Trump while hitting former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley&period;&nbsp&semi;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p class&equals;"wp-block-paragraph">&&num;8220&semi;I signed a pledge to support the Republican nominee&comma; and I will honor that pledge&period; He has my endorsement because we can&&num;8217&semi;t go back to the old Republican guard of yesteryear&period; A repackaged form of warmed-over corporatism that Nikki Haley represents&period;&&num;8221&semi;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p class&equals;"wp-block-paragraph">At one time&comma; DeSantis had been seen as the most viable Trump alternative after sweeping to reelection as Florida governor during last year’s midterm elections&period; His victory was in sharp contrast to how other Republicans performed around the country&comma; including many who had been endorsed by President Trump&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p class&equals;"wp-block-paragraph">But&comma; His failure to gain traction in the primary represented not only a major political failure&comma; but his endorsement of Trump only proves that he never had what it takes to defeat the former president&comma; nor do anything to pry loose his iron grip on the GOP&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p class&equals;"wp-block-paragraph">There can be many reasons to point to as to why DeSantis’ campaign failed so dismally&period; He himself blames Trump’s indictments that elevated the former president as a victim and kept him at the top of the news cycles&period; Perhaps that played a role&period; However&comma; DeSantis&&num;8217&semi;s ultimate downfall was he really had nothing to offer Trump voters&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p class&equals;"wp-block-paragraph">If you know anything about branding and marketing&comma; then you know that one of the greatest misfires of the last few decades was the introduction of &OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;New Coke&period;” Coca-Cola thought they could offer their fans an alternative to Coke that tasted &OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;something like Coke” but was not exactly Coke&period; It failed miserably&comma; and the soft-drink giant was forced to return to the original formula&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p class&equals;"wp-block-paragraph">In comparison to Donald Trump&comma; DeSantis was running as nothing more than &OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;New Coke&comma;” and it’s obvious voters&comma; like soda drinkers&comma; prefer the original that they know and love – and nothing says &OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;original” like Donald J&period; Trump&excl;<&sol;p>&NewLine;
